What are the responsibilities and job description for the Materials Laboratory Technician position at METCUT RESEARCH ASSOC?
Description of Duties: The role involves collaboration with engineering teams and internal clients, focusing on instrumentation and testing for both standard and specialized test specimens. The candidate will operate servo-hydraulic test frames equipped with MTS 458's and Flex SE controllers and manage test data processing through MS Excel and other software platforms. Responsibilities include calculations, recording, and verifying testing standards, as well as calibrating and setting up complex test stations. The individual will conduct measurements using various inspection techniques and tools, maintain lab support equipment and workspaces, and repair defective equipment as needed. Additionally, the role includes assisting Laboratory Professionals, Supervisors, and Engineers in project planning, and all testing performed. Maximum weightlifting requirement of 50 pounds. Standing/sitting 80/20. Furthermore, the individual may be tasked with managing individual laboratory projects that extend beyond the direct scope of testing processes. These projects require a proactive approach and the ability to adapt to diverse laboratory tasks, underscoring the importance of versatility and initiative in this position.
Education, Experience and Qualifications
• High School Diploma
• 0-5 years’ experience in materials/metallography laboratory or engineering.
• Proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Ability to understand topics related to metallography, thermal spray coating, materials science, hardness, microstructure.
• Ability to pay meticulous attention to all aspects of a situation or task, no matter how small or seemingly unimportant.
• Standing / sitting time ratio is 80/20, respectively.
Familiarity with aerospace coatings and Lean methodologies are a plus.
