Software Engineering Intern

Responsibilities

METER is seeking a Software Engineering Intern to join our software development team. The successful candidate will be pursuing a degree in computer science or a related field at a local university within 50 miles of Pullman, WA. The Software Intern will champion a number of small projects under the supervision of senior software engineers. Ideally, we are looking for someone who can work full-time hours during the summer. Part-time work may be available during the school year (at least ten hours per week). Our development teams design products used in research agricultural and environmental sensing applications across the globe. This role works from our Pullman, WA office. We anticipate filling this position in the salary range of $18 - $23 per hour. We are open to reviewing additional candidates with more or less experience; the pay range may differ if filled at a different level. Our offer will be based on job-related factors such as candidate experience, training, knowledge, and skills. Responsibilities:

• Design and implement software systems using Python.
• Create and maintain documentation.
• Test systems for bugs.
• Collaborate and communicate with coworkers in software, internal development partners, and at times external development partners regarding project progress, and issue resolution.
  
  

Minimum Qualifications:

• At least a junior at a local university studying computer science or a similar field (candidates not located within the area won't be considered).
• Experience with Python programming (a coding test will be administered during the interview process).
• Demonstrated problem solving ability.
• Strong academic and/or professional references.
• Background check results satisfactory to METER.
• Must have the legal right to work in the United States.
  
  

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with web development software stack (HTML, Javascript, CSS)
• Implementing API endpoints
• Experience with git version control.
• Familiarity with scrum or agile development methodologies.
• Willingness to remain on the Palouse for a career after college.
  
  

Work environment

Typical office environment with computer workstation. Some travel to client sites may be required. Physical requirements

Qualifications

Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds over short distances as needed. Sitting for extended periods of time, bending, twisting, and other movement consistent with office environments.
