Metglas, Inc., located in Conway, SC, is a world leading producer of Amorphous Metal Ribbon. Since our company began in the 1970’s, Metglas, Inc. (then Allied Signal located in Morristown, NJ) pioneered the development and production of amorphous metal, a unique alloy that exhibits a structure in which the metal atoms occur in a random pattern. The key to Metglas Inc.’s proprietary manufacturing process is the rapid solidification of molten alloy at a rate of approximately one million degrees Celsius per second.
We are currently seeking a Full-Time Plant Metallurgist for our busy 24/7 amorphous metal manufacturing plant.
Responsibilities of Position:
- Safety - set expectations to maintain a safe and organized workplace, lead by example, ensure environmental compliance, hold safety talks with personnel as needed, make daily observations and conduct Safety and Housekeeping Audits.
- Coordination of melt department operations with Melt Supervisors.
- Primary Responsibility for Maintenance/Engineering Liaison for non-AR level Melt and RMSB repairs and projects.
- Assist Melt Supervisors with RMSB charge coordination, raw materials inventory, chemistry control and corrections, and melt process, as required in Melt Manager’s absence (Melt Managers are Primary).
- Maintain melt webpage with required communications to operate the plant on a 24 hr basis.
- Write, review, and update all procedures/work instructions and forms in ISO 9000 QC system and Melt Intranet for the melting of all alloys.
- Actively participate in the quality process including resolution of CARS.
- Arrange and assist Melt Managers in all melt X-trials, collect experimental data and samples, compile and interpret the results.
- Other duties as assigned.
Key Success Factors:
- Assist in communicating performance expectations including safe work practices to all melt personnel.
- Drive webpage initiatives in melt areas.
- Solicit feedback from plant personnel on opportunities to improve processes (yields, procedures, methods, etc.).
- Continuously monitor & revise melt area ISO documents as required.
- Effectively integrate with the other crew leaders to deliver casting production and quality objectives.
- Ability to work with engineers / metallurgists to execute trials and implement improvements.

Experience/Education Required/Sought:
- BS degree in Chemical Engineering or Materials Science.
- Organizational ability.
- Advanced user in MS Office applications, specifically Excel and PowerPoint.
- 5 years related experience in manufacturing.
- Must have Metallurgist background.
- Must have previously worked closely with R&D, Quality, Procurement, and other relevant departments.
- You MUST be available days, nights, overnights, weekends, and holidays as/if/when needed to keep the plant running.
