What To Expect
As part of the Insurance Services team, the primary responsibility of the Business Development Specialist is to prospect and build a strong distribution network of independent insurance agencies nationwide. This role includes prospecting new potential agency partners, establishing if they are an ideal partner to contract with, and building a solid mutual working relationship. This role is also focused on production and agency management, which includes obtaining new business submissions, tracking production, and ensuring efficient and effective communication with the underwriting team. This is a full-time, salaried exempt position with standard business hours of Monday through Friday from 8 : 00am to 5 : 00pm, with some flexibility at manager’s discretion.
What You’ll Do
- Prospect and initiate conversations with new independent insurance agents.
- Exercise discretion and independent judgment in the communication and presentation to agents and agencies, the evaluation and determination of client needs, the development of a plan of action to offer exceptional service to attract new business opportunities, and in the management of the territory portfolio and production.
- Establish and develop agency relationships and process agency terminations.
- Responsible for meeting monthly targets for increased submissions.
- Manage monthly submission goals.
- Utilize a consultative sales approach and follow a strategic marketing plan to develop agency relationships that produce new business opportunities consistently and effectively.
- Track large accounts through the lifecycle of a submission.
- Make formal sales presentations and follow-up on calls for existing and prospecting independent insurance agents.
- Learn and utilize the team’s sales strategy to effectively resolve client objections and maximize sales activity levels within each one of the selected agency partners.
- Follow a strategic marketing plan to grow agency relationships which produce new business opportunities.
- Conduct follow-up on calls to existing and prospecting agents for new business accounts.
- Collaborate with the underwriting team to ensure accounts are written and hit production results accordingly.
- Meet performance expectations, including attending weekly calls, scheduling agency appointments, and reporting production results.
- Document all activities, including contacts, calls, appointments, and opportunities within our Agency Relationship Management system.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Unless fully remote, this position operates in a professional office setting and routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines. This is largely a sedentary role with prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. However, some filing is necessary and may require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary.
