JOB SUMMARY
The primary areas of responsibility for a cook include preparing nutritious meals, demonstrating appropriate kitchen skills and maintaining the kitchen located in the dining hall. The Cook reports to the Senior Director for Programs (Ranch) and must maintain a healthy value system, including moral and ethical behavior consistent with the agency's mission and core values.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare meals and snacks according to the menu.

Demonstrate appropriate food preparation with cooking equipment and routine kitchen cleaning tasks,
including kitchen cleaning after all meals. - Plan and purchase food and food supplies for each meal.
- Maintain inventory of food and supplies.
- Maintain temperature records as required.
- Communicate with staff regularly to determine accurate food quantities.
- Provide opportunities for children and staff to have input into meal planning.
- Assist in providing opportunities for children to learn meal preparation skills.
- Maintain constructive work environment by establishing positive relationships with children and staff.
- Maintain appropriate sanitary conditions in accordance with health and licensing regulations.
- Prepare and assist with organization functions and special events.
- Serve food at functions and special events and attend meetings.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Department schedule is assigned by the supervisor. A technology stipend is provided to support the communication requirements of this position.
EDUCATION/LICENSURE
A high school diploma or equivalent is required. A food handlers' certification is required, and previous cooking experience is preferred.
TRAINING
Training hours must be completed pre-service and annually to comply with licensing, contract, and accreditation standards, as well as MCH policy. The employee's supervisor may require additional training to meet specific job requirements or enhance professional growth. Completion of training requirements is mandatory for continued employment.
OTHER
The Cook must be at least 21 years of age and have a valid Texas Driver's License, an excellent driving record that meets the standards set forth by the liability insurance company and Methodist Children's Home, no criminal history and acceptable references.
