Responsible for the creation and implementation of a comprehensive music therapy program, based upon best practice and evidence. Applies music therapy in the treatment of physiological and psychological aspects of patients. Develops treatment plans based on patient assessment and therapeutic goals, and works with patients, family members, and staff to meet these goals. Applies knowledge of growth and development for patients of all age groups to deliver appropriate therapeutic interventions through music, and/or Guided Imagery and Music sessions. Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in MLH Mission, Vision and Values.

What You Will Do
- Plans, organizes, and directs prescribed music therapy activities as part of mental and physical health care and treatment of patients.
- Collaborates with other members of the medical team in planning music therapy activities in accordance with patients' physical or psychological needs, capabilities, and interests.
- Directs and participates in instrumental and vocal music activities designed to meet patients' physical or psychological needs.
- Advocates for individual patients’/parents’ concerns, special needs and rights, and makes appropriate referrals to helpful individuals or agencies within the hospital and community.
- Develops, implements, coordinates, and manages music therapy students and volunteers, including scheduling, training, and retention.
- Performs other job functions as requested or assigned.

- Knowledge of musical theory and instruction methods.
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of music therapy.
- Excellent communication skills with ability to obtain the cooperation of patients and patient families.
- Ability to build and maintain cohesive teams.
- Provides guidance and direction to Music Therapy Interns and Volunteers, as assigned.
- The physical activities of this position may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion.
- Must have good balance and coordination.
- The physical requirements of this position are: medium work - exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 25 lbs. of force frequently.
- The Associate is required to have close visual acuity including color, depth perception, and field of vision to perform an activity, such as assessing patients, preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; or extensive reading.
- Frequent invasive and non-invasive patient contact.
- Exposure to patient body fluids as well as exposure to hazardous or poisonous materials.
- Ability to react quickly to emergency situations.
