Functions as an Advanced Practice Nurse collaboratively with physician sponsor/s providing leadership of the clinical care team and acts as a change agent for a specific patient population by incorporating the role of clinical expert, role model, consultant, educator, practitioner, researcher, and nurse leader. A Brief Overview

What You Will Do

  • Clinical Practice Expert: Provides advanced level of direct and indirect care to individual patients/families and/or groups of patients/families in collaboration with physicians and interdisciplinary team members.
  • Education/Clinical Staff Development: Provides leadership and collaborates with other health professionals and educational resources to establish staff education programs to address the specific needs of populations of patients.
  • Evidence-Based Consultant & Researcher: Demonstrates collaborative leadership with researchers, other health professionals, divisions, and departments to generate knowledge and make practice changes based on research findings, as well as, the results of the organizational and departmental quality improvement processes.
  • Clinical Leadership: Provides leadership in meeting system, organizational, division, and departmental goals.
  • Demonstrates accountability for professional responsibilities and self-development.

  • 3-5 years General nursing or clinical practice

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • Proficiency in applying advanced concepts, principles, and professional techniques in a specialized field of nursing. Such proficiency is acquired through completion of a master’s degree or higher in a nursing specialty and is demonstrated through national specialty certification as a nurse practitioner.

Supervision Provided by this Position

  • There are no supervisory or lead responsibilities assigned to this position.

Physical Demands

  • Frequent invasive and non-invasive patient contact.
  • Exposure to patient body fluids as well as exposure to hazardous or poisonous materials.
  • Exposure to excessive heat or cold as required.
  • Ability to react quickly to emergency situations.
  • May require handling or administering of narcotics.
  • Ability to read and write to communicate orally and in writing with other individuals.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. without assistance and push and pull up to 250 lbs.
  • Ability to sit in one place, stand, walk, squat, kneel, reach, twist, crawl, and bend.
  • Ability to perform repetitive hand and wrist motion, as well as using hands for gripping and squeezing.
  • Ability to use hands and feet together for repetitive coordinated motions.
  • Good hand-eye coordination.

The Nephrology Advanced Practice Provider will serve as a full time APP to provide care to patients at Methodist University Hospital. The APP will provide inpatient management of the nephrology patient. Responsibilities include providing expert level clinical care & coordination of care via a full range of services that will improve quality of patient care assessing & evaluating patients, ordering appropriate laboratory testing & diagnostic studies, arranging for referrals, testing, consultation & therapeutic services, and maintaining outstanding relationships with families, referring physicians & all members of the health care team.

1-2 years Inpatient medicine experience.

CPR-BLS Certification required at the time of appointment.

Education

Nephrology & Dialysis experience preferred.

Doctorate: Advanced Practice Nursing, Master's Degree: Advanced Practice Nursing (Required), Master's Degree: Nursing
