What You Will Do
- Performs patient screening examinations. Perform preliminary exams such as, visual acuity, pupil tests, retinoscopy and refractometry, etc. Provides Orthoptic treatment.
- Prepares exam rooms and position patient for procedures.
- Interview patients and document ocular and medical histories.
- Performs routine tests using ophthalmic instruments that provide diagnostic information. Communicates with patients regarding follow-up care, tests and procedures.
- Maintains and cleans all equipment being used. Reports working condition of equipment if out of service.
- Performs other job functions as assigned or requested.
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Bachelor's Degree Biological Science
- Ophthalmology
- 1-3 years Patient care environment
- Ability to communicate written and oral with physicians, other clinical Associates, and patients and their families both verbally and in writing.
- Interpersonal skills with ability to successfully interact with physicians, other Associates and patients and their families. Demonstrated skills in conflict resolution and problem solving.
- Knowledge of medical office practices and medical terminology.
- High attention to detail demonstrated in clinical and contractual settings.
- Ability to plan and schedule tasks and projects and to maintain control of own work flow by prioritizing projects.
- There are no supervisory or lead responsibilities assigned to this position.
- The physical activities of this position may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion.
- Must have good balance and coordination.
- The physical requirements of this position are: light work - up to10 lbs. of force occasionally.
- The Associate is required to have close visual acuity including color, depth perception, and field of vision to perform an activity, such as assessing patients, preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; or extensive reading.
- Frequent invasive and non-invasive patient contact.
- Frequent exposure to patient body fluids.
- Ability to react quickly to emergency situations.
Education
