Description
This is a full-time position with benefits. This position reports to the Superintendent of Grounds, and Assistant Superintendent of Grounds.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Planting, weeding, mulching, watering, and caring for plants and shrubbery on university grounds.
- Mowing
- Maintaining lawns, trees, shrubs, flowers, turf, and irrigation.
- Trimming hedges, trees, and shrubs.
- Preventing and eliminating weeds.
- Maintaining university grounds by keeping them free from trash, litter, and debris. Tent setups.
- Lifting/moving objects and equipment weighing approximately 50 pounds as needed.
- Using hand and power tools as needed to accomplish assigned tasks.
- Frequent bending, kneeling, lifting, and shoveling.
- Must be able to work weekends as needed.
Qualifications
Experience and Training:
- Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.
- Prefer applicants with strong grounds or horticultural experience.
- Prefer applicants with education equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.
- Valid Driver's License required.
Knowledge of:
- Proper weeding, trimming, pruning, and fertilizing of plants and shrubbery.
- Hazards and safety precautions related to general maintenance and horticultural activities.
Ability to:
- Properly care for assigned areas and equipment.
- Understand and carry out oral and written directions.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
- Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Bend, kneel, lift, and shovel.
- Lift/move heavy equipment and objects as needed.
- Properly use and care for hand and power tools.
