What are the responsibilities and job description for the Garage Mechanic position at Methuen Construction Company, Inc.?
Methuen Construction Company is seeking an Entry Level Mechanic teammate to assist with repairing, maintaining and servicing Methuen Constructions fleet of vehicles and equipment. These may be cars, trucks, SUVs, and a variety of construction equipment for our construction sites.
Essential Functions

Execute the daily operational, day-to-day goals and priorities assigned by the Equipment Supervisor.

Maintain and repair heavy diesel, gas, hydraulic and electrically operated equipment and vehicles.

Assist in the review of mechanical write-ups on equipment and vehicles.

Utilize a variety of power tools, hand tools and heavy equipment.

Read schematic drawings as needed.

Perform electronic diagnostics to identify mechanical, operational and/or electrical issues, malfunctions and perform necessary repairs.

Communicate diagnostic findings; plan of action; and parts necessary to make repairs.

Recognize and operate tools, equipment common to heavy equipment repairs and maintenance including electronic diagnostic equipment.

Test drive vehicles to diagnose problems and to ensure that they operate properly.

Actively maintain records related to service and maintenance of vehicles/equipment.

Provide assistance when needed to Garage/Yard including:

Assist in data entry.

Clean and organize shop floors

Help with snow removal when needed

Identify and pursue opportunities to save time and increase productivity

Supervisory Responsibility
This position is not responsible for the supervision or oversight of other teammates.
Position Type

This is an hourly, non-exempt position. Standard work hours are Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 pm.

May need to work weekends or after 3:30PM to ensure equipment/vehicle is available for the next work shift.
Travel
Travel is primarily local, and limited to Northeast jobsite locations, during the business day; with occasional out of state and overnight travel. Less than 20% travel expected.
Education and Experience

High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, including ability to use Excel on an intermediate level.

Basic mathematics skills.

NH State inspection license is a plus.
Work Environment/Physical Demands

Ability to lift 50 pounds

Ability to stand for extended periods of time, and safely maneuver around the nearby presence of various construction equipment and vehicles, on an active construction site.

Prepared to regularly encounter moving mechanical parts, high precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, and a variety of outside weather conditions.

Able to climb temporary or permanent stairs, and ladders.

Able to bend, squat, kneel, crawl, crouch, balance and stoop, reach on a regular basis.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
