What are the responsibilities and job description for the Process Mechanical Estimator position at Methuen Construction Company, Inc.?
The Process Mechanical Estimator is responsible for preparing competitive job estimates by interpreting drawings, bid documents, and performing take off in the process/mechanical divisions of work including industrial and process piping, mechanical equipment, chemical feed systems, and equipment testing and startup. This position reports to the VP of Preconstruction and is not responsible for the oversight of other teammates. This is a full-time, salaried-exempt position.
Your Role
- Perform clear and complete estimates for work scope assigned
- Support the bidding process by soliciting and reviewing subcontractor and vendor quotes
- Compile and compare pricing from subcontractors and vendors for assigned specifications and scopes of work. Communicate pricing gaps, exceptions, and make recommendations to Senior Estimators to normalize pricing across proposals
- Collaborate with the other job estimators, senior estimators, sub and vendor coordinators, and other teammates to clearly define the scope of work to ensure all scope is covered
- Assemble bid packages as required by the procuring entity
- Understand and communicate the scope of work to Senior Estimators, Chief Estimator, and Executives. Analyze and develop lists of potential risks and value engineering items to support bid review meetings
- Interact with project owners, engineers, subcontractors, and vendors as needed
- Provide input and data to company material cost and production rate databases for use in estimating spreadsheets
- Collaborate with Project Managers and field teammates to keep production rates current and align estimating systems with current field technology and processes
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Your Education and Experience
- Bachelors Degree in Engineering or Construction Management, or equivalent industry experience
- Three to five years of experience in construction estimating (or equivalent industry experience) with a broad understanding of ground-up construction through completion with water/wastewater, buildings, and industrial projects
- Knowledge of industrial processes and mechanical systems
- Knowledge of estimating fundamentals and conceptual estimating techniques
- Interpret engineering plans and project specifications
- Experience with construction means and methods
- Experience with Planswift, AutoCAD and iSqFt or similar platforms
