The supervising principal assumes responsibility for the school's total operation and management and maintains a safe, orderly, and optimal school climate. BACKGROUND: Methuen Public Schools enrolls approximately 7,000 students in a total of five schools: the Comprehensive Grammar School (PK-8); the Marsh Grammar School (PK-8); the Tenney Grammar School (PK-8); the Timony Grammar School (PK-8); and Methuen High School (9-12). QUALIFICATIONS: Principal/Assistant Principal (9-12) license from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education SEI endorsementMasters degree or higher from an accredited institution At least 5 years of teaching experience at the high school levelPrevious experiences as a high school administratorExperience overseeing academic programming and evaluating teachers and staffUnderstanding of effective instructional strategies and Universal Design for LearningKnowledge of culturally and linguistically sustaining practicesAbility to lead a team and develop and execute plans Ability to maintain positive relationships and build consensusHighly effective communication skillsBilingual preferred - Primary languages spoken in the community: English, Spanish, Portuguese, and Haitian Creole.Outstanding preparation and/or experience may be substituted for some of the above qualifications.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Leads the high school administrative team and is responsible for the supervision and maintenance of the buildingCollaborates with district and school leaders regularly Creates a learning environment for all students that promotes positive student interactions, learning, and high-quality instructionImplements and enforces a school-wide student disciplinary system with consistency Upholds laws, school and district policies and procedures, and makes recommendations for appropriate revisions of policiesAnnually reviews and presents MHS Program of StudiesMaintains accurate records and monitors the progress of individual student behaviorProtects confidentiality of records and student informationSupports the development of a culture that builds opportunities for student voice and decision-makingAttends and supervises after-school, evening, and weekend school-sponsored events and activitiesAssumes supervisory and evaluative responsibility for faculty and staffOversees the recruitment, hiring, and orientation of staff Maintains regular communication with parents and familiesInterfaces with other school support personnel and with social agencies at the community and state levelsSupports the strategy for district improvement.
