Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly experienced and innovative Senior AV Design Engineer to lead the design, development, and integration of cutting-edge audio-visual systems for complex commercial projects, primarily large public assembly spaces including athletic stadiums & arenas, convention centers, museums, and performing arts centers. The Senior AV Design Engineer will play a key role in providing strategic direction for AV system design, mentoring junior engineers, and collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to ensure the successful execution of projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of AV technologies, system design principles, and a passion for creating high-quality AV experiences.


Key Responsibilities:

AV System Design:

  • Collaborate with clients, project managers, and other engineers to design custom AV systems tailored to client needs.
  • Take ownership of the design and architecture of large-scale, complex AV systems across various sectors, including corporate, entertainment, education, and hospitality.
  • Lead design efforts, from conceptualization to final implementation, ensuring high-quality, cost-effective, and technically robust AV solutions.
  • Develop and produce detailed design documentation, including system schematics, signal flow diagrams, equipment lists, and rack elevations.

Client and Stakeholder Management:

  • Serve as the primary technical point of contact for clients, architects, consultants, and other stakeholders throughout the design and implementation phases.
  • Provide expert consultation and technical recommendations to clients, ensuring the AV design aligns with their vision and business objectives.
  • Present and explain complex AV designs and solutions to clients, project managers, and other non-technical stakeholders.

Equipment Selection and Sourcing:

  • Select appropriate AV equipment (e.g., displays, projectors, sound systems, control panels) based on client requirements and budget.
  • Work closely with vendors and suppliers to source AV equipment, ensuring compatibility and performance standards are met.

Technical Consultation:

  • Provide technical expertise to clients and internal teams on system capabilities, design options, and best practices.
  • Troubleshoot complex AV system design challenges, offering innovative solutions.

Innovation and System Integration:

  • Stay up-to-date with the latest AV technologies, trends, and industry standards, ensuring that designs incorporate the most advanced solutions available.
  • Design and implement integrated AV systems that seamlessly interface with other systems (e.g., IT infrastructure, lighting, security, building management).

Project Oversight and Coordination:

  • Oversee and manage multiple AV projects simultaneously, ensuring that projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to client specifications.
  • Coordinate closely with the project management team to develop project schedules and timelines, ensuring all project milestones are met.
  • Conduct site visits to assess project requirements, verify system design accuracy, and ensure smooth installation.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain clear and comprehensive design documentation, including change orders and as-built drawings, ensuring accuracy and completeness throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Produce detailed reports on project progress, timelines, and potential design challenges for stakeholders.

Collaboration with Installation Teams:

  • Work alongside installation teams to ensure smooth implementation and integration of AV systems.
  • Assist with system commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting during installation to ensure system functionality and performance.

Quality Assurance:

  • Conduct system design reviews and ensure that designs adhere to industry standards, project requirements, and client specifications.
  • Perform quality checks during the installation process to ensure the AV system meets design expectations.


Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Audio-Visual Technology, Electrical Engineering, or a related field (preferred).

Experience:

  • 7 years in AV system design or related field, with major responsibilities for at least a few $1M projects.
  • Proven experience designing and integrating large-scale AV systems, including advanced control systems, signal routing, and networked AV solutions.
  • Experience leading and mentoring engineering teams, as well as collaborating with cross-functional teams (e.g., project managers, vendors, installers).
  • Designing and building large-venue PA and audio systems.
  • Designing and building direct-view LED displays.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, including 3D modeling.
  • Designing and implementing AV-Over-IP solutions such as Crestron NVX, QSYS, Extron NAV, ZeeVee, etc.
  • Programming AV control systems such as Crestron, QSYS, AMX, or Extron is a plus.

Technical Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of AV technologies, including audio, video, control systems, and network integration.
  • Familiarity with signal routing, system troubleshooting, and troubleshooting AV systems.
  • Proficient in reading and creating technical schematics and blueprints.
  • Ability to manage large AV projects from inception to completion.
  • Solid understanding of IT networking as it pertains to AV.

Certifications:

  • CTS-D (Certified Technology Specialist - Design) or equivalent AV certifications (preferred).
  • Certifications in applicable manufacturers’ products.

Soft Skills:

  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent project management skills with the ability to juggle multiple high-priority tasks.
  • Client-focused with a passion for delivering exceptional service and innovative solutions.
  • Problem-solving mindset and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Working Conditions:

  • Full-time position.
  • Occasional travel to client sites for site assessments, installations, and system commissioning.
  • May involve occasional evening or weekend work based on project schedules.
  • Work at the Metinteractive headquarters in Oxford, CT, work from home, or hybrid.
