The Global Real Estate group maintains a portfolio invested in real estate equity and commercial mortgage loans, and sources and manages investments through seven regional field offices in the U.S. and International field offices in London, Tokyo, Mexico City and Santiago. The Associate Director serves as an indispensable member of MetLife Investment Management’s (MIM’s) Real Estate Research & Strategy team. In this role, the Associate Director is tasked with helping to develop investment strategies and coordinating communication of those strategies to MetLife Real Estate employees, stakeholders, and clients. This includes authoring strategy reports for external distribution, writing opinions on prospective and existing investments, and supporting or leading working groups and meetings related to future investment strategies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess real estate market trends and develop investment strategies across markets and property types.
- Review the underwriting and relative value of potential investments, and occasionally represent research in Investment Committee. A representative from research votes on all potential U.S. equity investments and certain higher risk mortgage investments.
- Assist the research platform in gaining greater visibility in the real estate industry by authoring thought-provoking real estate strategy reports, and through involvement in industry organizations
- Monitor, analyze, and support forecasting of economic and real estate market conditions, including oversight of property underwriting assumptions
- Partner with MetLife Investment Management’s regional office network to formulate tactical real estate investment strategies.
Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills
Required:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with writing samples available upon request.
- 7 years of real estate experience.
- 3 years of experience developing and communicating real estate investment strategies.
- Analytical skills including basic regression analysis and managing large datasets in Excel.
- Travel is required and may amount to 5% to 10% of work time annually.
Preferred:
- Bachelor’s degree required. Preferred in Business, Finance, Real Estate, Economics, Math, Statistics, Liberal Arts, or a related field of study. MBA or master’s in real estate equivalent preferred.
