Based at our global headquarters in Houston, TX, the Mechanical Engineer V (Senior Staff) will lead the design, optimization, and maintenance of chemical vapor deposition (CVD) systems for high-temperature superconducting products. This role encompasses engineering innovation, project management, cross-functional collaboration, and mentorship. This position utilizes extensive expertise in CVD systems and epitaxial deposition to drive continuous improvements in equipment performance, yield, and manufacturing efficiency.
Key Responsibilities :
- Engineering :
- Lead the design and development of mechanical systems, components, and products, ensuring compliance with specifications, standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Apply advanced engineering principles and methodologies to solve complex technical challenges, optimize designs, and drive innovation in CVD equipment and processes.
- Improve reactor performance through the design and evaluation of new CVD subsystems.
- Build and assess complex system performance, focusing on mechanical design parameters (stress, strain, deflection, and safety factors).
- Develop and document production plans, including Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA).
- Prepare detailed engineering documentation, including drawings, specifications, and technical reports to communicate design concepts and findings effectively.
- Procure fabrication of custom parts, ensuring specifications and timelines are met.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements, cost reductions, and performance enhancements, contributing to operational excellence initiatives.
- Process & Manufacturing Support :
- Support CVD process manufacturing activities, troubleshooting material growth issues and developing CVD growth recipes.
- Provide tool qualification sequences, calibration monitors, and wafer characterization protocols for new and existing products.
- Ensure CVD equipment compliance with Statistical Process Control (SPC) standards and maintenance schedules.
- Define and execute maintenance plans to improve reactor yield, uptime, and productivity.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate CVD solutions into overall manufacturing processes.
- Support manufacturing automation projects to improve data collection and analysis methods.
- Project Management :
- Own projects from initial concept to final implementation, overseeing planning, scheduling, and resource management.
- Lead tool designs and performance-related design reviews, following through on action items and design decisions.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of solutions into production workflows.
- Mentorship :
- Provide guidance, mentorship, and technical support to junior engineers, fostering their professional growth and development.
- Other duties as assigned.
