Position Summary
Reporting to the SHADOWLAB Engineering Lead, Electromagnetics and Cyber Group (EMCG), and supporting Metrea’s overall engineering efforts, the RF – Electrical Engineer will join our busy team specializing in state-of-the-art military communications and signals intelligence products. All our teams operate in a small agile environment which allows our engineering personnel to work independently on a wide variety of systems and products. Our mix of product development and R&D also provides our engineering staff with a constant flow of new and interesting projects.
Role and Responsibilities
- RF System Design & Analysis
- Design, develop, and optimize RF circuits, antennas, and communication systems.
- Conduct simulations and modeling for RF performance, impedance matching, and signal integrity.
- Testing & Troubleshooting
- Perform RF and electrical testing, debugging, and validation of hardware components.
- Use test equipment such as spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, and oscilloscopes to diagnose issues.
- PCB Design & Integration
- Design and layout high-frequency PCBs, ensuring minimal signal loss and electromagnetic interference (EMI).
- Work closely with mechanical and software engineers for system integration.
- Compliance & Standards Adherence
- Ensure designs comply with industry standards such as FCC, ITU, MIL-STD, or IEEE.
- Conduct electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and EMI testing to meet regulatory requirements.
- Prototyping & Manufacturing Support
- Assist in the prototyping phase, working with contract manufacturers to transition designs into production.
- Optimize designs for manufacturability, cost, and reliability.
- Technical Documentation & Collaboration
- Generate detailed design documentation, test reports, and technical specifications.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including firmware, mechanical, and systems engineers, to achieve project goals.
Skills and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Math, or Physics.
- Experience with schematic capture and PCB layout with Altium Designer.
- Experience and understanding of how to use electrical and RF test equipment, such as digital multi-meters, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers and network analyzers.
- Experience with integrating, testing, and characterizing RF components: power amplifiers, low noise amplifiers, switches, step attenuators, power meters, mixers, filters.
- Experience in creating functional block diagrams, system interface diagrams, and cable assembly drawing per ASME Y14.24.
- Experience with integrating bench top/development board test setups including hardware, firmware, and software use and integration.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position with typical working hours of Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Hours and work shifts may change in accordance with department and business needs. Exempt employees must have the ability to be on-call and available outside of typical working hours, as business needs require.
