Capability Unit

Metrea AeroSpace Design (MASD) provides engineering design and certification services for aircraft modifications, including special mission modifications, avionics upgrades and advanced communications capabilities .

Position Summary

The Aircraft Modification Project Engineer will provide expedient engineering support in an aircraft modification environment. The engineer will also support internal and external customers (e.g., production personnel, suppliers, materials, quality, design) and other engineers. Performs engineering design evaluations and works to complete projects within budget and scheduling restraints. Provides technical support for the engineering process, including shop liaison support and coordination with shop personnel, other engineers, supply chain specialists, management and other project stakeholders.

Coordinate with management, other engineers, and shop technicians to develop design requirements and incorporate design changes. Adhere to company standards for configuration, file management, and change control. Exercise initiative, continuous improvement, and attention to detail to improve design and drawing quality, completeness, and accuracy.

Role And Responsibilities

  • Provide project-level overall engineering guidance and support for Part 23 and Part 25 aircraft modifications, including commercial derivative aircraft supporting special mission operations.
  • Coordinate with management and customer organizations for guidance, priorities, and cost and schedule constraints to be met.
  • Provide engineering liaison support for installation personnel by reviewing and interpreting structural and electrical engineering drawings.
  • Review documents and track change requests from the shop in the context of engineering and project requirements.
  • Identify proactive and creative solutions to engineering and manufacturing issues based on industry experience for presentation to the team.
  • Guide design engineers and provide regular status reports for engineering and program management.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.

Skills And Experience

Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or at least 7 years in an aircraft engineering shop support/liaison role.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience supporting aircraft modifications in an FAA and/or military environment.
  • Familiarity with aircraft engineering, fabrication, quality, and program management methods and procedures.
  • Familiarity with airborne ISR (Intelligence, Surveillance, Reconnaissance) modifications and typical equipment is strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with both aircraft structural and electrical aircraft modification engineering drawings
  • Familiarity with FAA STC development processes and major alteration aircraft modifications
  • Experience with FAA DERs and familiarity with an ODA certification environment
  • SolidWorks and/or AutoCad design experience, preferably
  • Demonstrate success working in a highly collaborative multi-function environment.
  • Demonstrated intellectual humility, high levels of emotional intelligence, and an innate ability to challenge one's thinking and adjust to others.

  • Must be results-oriented and demonstrate flexibility in dealing with changing and ambiguous situations.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with staff.
  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Highly developed sense of judgment and maturity.

Computer Skills

  • SolidWorks, AutoCad
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and Monday.com

Certificates

  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Ability to obtain a US Passport

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position with typical working hours of Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Hours, and work shifts may change in accordance with department and business needs. Expect employees must have the ability to be on-call and available as required by business needs. Non-exempt employees may be required to work over 40 hours per week with approval from the department manager.

Travel

Travel requirements may be up to 35%.

Work Location

Remote, with periodic travel.

Work Environment

This job operates in a home, office and shop environment.

This is a largely sedentary role; however, some physical abilities may be required.
