We are seeking a highly skilled Physical Substation Engineer to support and lead engineering activities for substation and transmission projects. This senior-level role involves overseeing the design, review, and maintenance of physical substations and switchyards, collaborating with internal teams and external contractors, and ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.
Ideal candidates will have a strong engineering background, extensive hands-on experience, and a well-rounded understanding of all aspects of substation engineering, including structural analysis, grounding design, and AC/DC calculations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and participate in capital project engineering activities, including developing RFPs, and selecting/managing third-party vendors and contractors.
- Structural analysis, grounding design, and AC/DC calculations.
- Review and recommend detailed engineering bid packages for approval.
- Develop, maintain, and manage engineering standards in collaboration with operations, planning, and project management teams.
- Assist in developing equipment ratings and guidelines to ensure proper operation and regulatory compliance.
- Provide technical guidance for ongoing new projects, and construction activities.
- Contribute to annual budget planning and maintain accurate contract records.
- Manage engineering databases and a drawing management file system.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Civil or Electrical preferred).
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in electric transmission or distribution engineering with a focus on physical substation design.
- Knowledge of transmission protection, control engineering, and/or line engineering.
- Familiarity with FERC regulations, RTO planning processes, and NERC compliance.
- Experience with transmission planning and project management software.
- Proficiency in CAD software, GIS tools, Aspen, and spreadsheet/reporting software (e.g., Excel, PowerPoint).
- Willingness to travel frequently to project sites.
