Controls Technician

About the Role
Our client, a leader in manufacturing and industrial automation, is seeking a Controls Technician to support the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and optimization of plant floor control systems. This role involves working with external contractors, training maintenance teams, and ensuring seamless plant operations through effective control system management.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform input/output (I/O) checkouts for new projects and process improvements.
- Maintain, modify, and develop PLC programs to support daily plant operations.
- Lead continuous improvement projects across the facility.
- Implement and support PLC and SCADA systems for plant automation projects.
- Install and utilize WonderWare SCADA software to enhance operational efficiency.
- Maintain and upgrade SCADA systems to ensure peak performance.
- Oversee change control processes and validate plant PLCs and SCADA systems.
- Train maintenance and operations teams on control system functionality.
- Collaborate with OEMs and consultants to resolve control system-related issues.
- Provide on-call support for on-shift technical troubleshooting.
- Work alongside the Network Administrator to maintain the Facility Controls Network (hardware/software).
- Ensure compliance with safety standards, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), and food safety protocols.
Qualifications
Required:
- High school diploma.
- 2-year Industrial Technology Certificate or a degree in Automation, Electrical, or Electronic Technology (or equivalent work experience).
- 2 years of experience developing and modifying electrical schematics.
Preferred:
- Bachelor’s degree (BS) in Engineering, Electrical, or Controls Technology.
- 5 years of experience in PLC programming and SCADA programming.
- Experience with:
- WonderWare Intouch & Archestra
- Allen-Bradley ControlLogix, PLC 5, SLC 5/05 software
- MS SQL, Industrial SQL, Wonderware Historian
- AB PanelView
- Sigmatek PLC & Operator Interfaces
- Robotic automation (Fanuc, UR, Okura, etc.)
Travel Requirements
- Occasional travel required (up to 5%).
Physical Requirements
- Ability to bend, climb, crawl, and work in confined/hazardous spaces.
- Work in extreme weather conditions and around hazardous materials.
- Lift up to 50 lbs. on a continual basis.
- Work in both industrial and office environments.
