Electrical / Controls Maintenance Technician

Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled Electrical / Controls Maintenance Technician to support production reliability and ensure proper function of electrical and control systems within a manufacturing environment. This role will focus on preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical and mechanical systems, while upholding a strong commitment to safety and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Support and improve equipment reliability across manufacturing operations.
- Follow safety guidelines and promote a strong safety culture in all tasks.
- Operate and maintain tools such as power tools, hand tools, and electrical testing instruments.
- Perform preventive maintenance activities, including annual inspections.
- Troubleshoot complex mechanical and electrical system issues with minimal supervision.
- Interpret and work from mechanical and electrical schematics and documentation.
- Utilize precision instruments to diagnose system problems.
- Follow and maintain Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures and certifications.
- Prepare work plans, gather required materials, and execute planned and unplanned maintenance tasks.
- Communicate and document maintenance actions through accurate work order closeout and daily shift pass-downs.
- Assist in developing and implementing maintenance programs for electronically controlled equipment and plant instrumentation.
- Troubleshoot and repair analog and digital sensors, control devices, and communication systems.
- Utilize test equipment such as oscilloscopes and volt-ohm meters (VOMs) to evaluate control devices.
- Investigate and resolve communication issues between PLC/PC systems and connected devices (e.g., barcode readers, RFID systems, scales, printers).
- Collaborate with maintenance leadership to address urgent maintenance requests and workflow priorities.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Minimum 3 years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Electrical Journeyman License (State of Michigan) – Required
- Proficient in troubleshooting 480V 3-phase motor control systems, 120V AC, and 24V DC circuits.
- Capable of interpreting engineering drawings including wiring diagrams, P&IDs, and blueprints.
- Proven experience troubleshooting and programming PLCs, preferably Allen-Bradley systems.
- Comfortable working second shift and weekends, as needed.
- Demonstrated experience with safety protocols, including LOTO.
- Must be a self-motivated, high-performance individual able to manage workload independently.
Preferred Qualifications
- Background in food processing or a highly regulated manufacturing environment.
- Familiarity with SAP or other computerized maintenance systems.
- Proficiency with calibration and diagnostic tools including RTD calibrators, digital multimeters, and 4–20 mA signal testers.
- Strong understanding of serial communications and related device troubleshooting.
