Position Overview:
Our Award Winning Client, a nationally recognized organization within the renewables and environmental industry, is seeking a highly experienced Environmental Protection Manager – Hazardous Waste to oversee and implement environmental compliance initiatives across a designated facility. This role is integral in driving regulatory adherence and guiding operational teams on environmental protection standards across various media, including waste, air, and water systems.
This position requires a strong understanding of local, state, and federal regulatory environments and demands hands-on leadership in environmental assessments, permitting, compliance training, and incident response.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and implement organizational environmental programs at assigned facility, functioning as the primary contact for internal stakeholders and external regulators on compliance and incident matters.
- Serve as the site liaison for environmental incidents, permitting, and expansion projects, encompassing broad regulatory frameworks for air, water, and hazardous and non-hazardous waste.
- Monitor and investigate regulatory compliance; provide expert analysis, documentation, and enforce corrective measures as needed.
- Guide and support on-site teams in resolving environmental issues by coordinating with internal departments and external regulatory bodies.
- Prepare, secure, and manage environmental permits and documentation to maintain operational compliance.
- Oversee field testing, environmental assessments, and waste stream evaluations, including petroleum products, stormwater, leachate, landfill gas, groundwater, and wastewater.
- Deliver technical oversight to consultants and staff during implementation and improvement of environmental protection strategies.
- Maintain detailed tracking of environmental performance using internal software tools such as Cycle and Dakota Tracer.
- Coordinate and deliver training programs to facility personnel to ensure adherence to environmental compliance requirements.
- Provide budget input for environmental protection projects and initiatives at the facility level.
Supervisory Scope:
May include oversight responsibilities such as contributing to employee evaluations, workload distribution, performance feedback, and involvement in hiring or disciplinary actions—when required in coordination with regional EP leadership.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree (accredited), or in lieu of a degree, High School Diploma or GED (accredited) and 4 years of additional relevant experience.
- A minimum of 7 years of experience in environmental protection and regulatory compliance roles.
Certifications & Requirements:
- Must possess sound knowledge of environmental regulations relevant to hazardous waste operations.
- Ability to wear level C PPE and a respirator when required.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Microsoft Teams.
- Experience working with data systems and environmental tracking tools.
- Demonstrated research capabilities and familiarity with statistical methods.
Work Environment:
This position involves both office work and field operations at a hazardous waste landfill or other outdoor environmental setting.
