In this key leadership role, you will oversee landfill operations, ensure compliance with environmental and safety regulations, and manage a team of 30 dedicated employees. This position requires a blend of technical expertise, regulatory knowledge, and operational leadership to drive efficiency and innovation in hazardous waste treatment.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Management
- Oversee waste sampling, treatment, and disposal programs to maintain efficiency.
- Manage leachate collection and disposal, identifying and resolving operational inefficiencies.
- Supervise landfill construction and capital projects to ensure smooth execution.
Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure adherence to EPA, RCRA, TSCA, DOT, and other federal and state regulations.
- Develop and implement contingency plans, spill prevention measures, and emergency response protocols.
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead and manage a team of 30 employees, including supervisors across multiple departments.
- Oversee hiring, training, performance management, and employee development.
- Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Health & Safety Implementation
- Enforce compliance with OSHA safety standards.
- Provide training on hazardous waste handling, RCRA, HAZWOPER, and DOT certifications.
Financial & Budget Oversight
- Develop and manage departmental budgets, optimizing resources and controlling costs.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree preferred, or high school diploma/GED with 4 years of relevant experience.
- Minimum 4 years of experience in waste management, hazardous materials, or a related field.
Certifications & Training
- Valid driver’s license.
- Organization-provided training and certification in RCRA, HAZWOPER (24-hour), and DOT.
Technical Expertise
- Strong understanding of hazardous waste regulations, including:
- Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA)
- Clean Air Act (CAA), Clean Water Act (CWA), and Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA)
- Proficiency in landfill operations and hazardous waste treatment best practices.
Physical & Medical Requirements
- Must pass a pre-employment physical and drug screening.
- Regular medical exams, respirator fit testing, and pulmonary function tests required.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Manage 30 employees, including supervisors overseeing stabilization, macro-encapsulation, and biological wastewater treatment.
- Responsible for hiring, training, work assignments, performance reviews, and conflict resolution.
