Construction Superintendent

Location: Chicago, IL (Up to 70% Travel Required)
Employment Type: Full-Time

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Construction Superintendent to lead on-site operations for complex construction projects across multiple locations. As the on-site representative of the General Contractor, you will collaborate closely with the Construction Manager (CM) and Project Manager (PM) to ensure safety, quality, and timely project execution.

Key Responsibilities

1. Safety & Quality Assurance

• Enforce safety protocols to maintain a hazard-free work environment.
• Implement and oversee the Quality Assurance Project Plan.

2. Site Logistics

• Manage material access, laydown areas, and storage solutions.
• Develop and maintain comprehensive site protection plans.

3. Documentation & Compliance

• Review and interpret contracts, drawings, and project specifications.
• Maintain detailed records, including daily reports and meeting minutes.

4. Team Supervision & Coordination

• Lead and communicate effectively with on-site teams.
• Oversee subcontractors and vendors, ensuring timelines are met and issues are resolved.

5. Scheduling & Workflow Management

• Assist in developing and maintaining project schedules, including three-week look-aheads.
• Coordinate and manage the installation of Owner Provided Contractor Installed (OFCI) equipment.

6. Problem-Solving & Technical Guidance

• Identify and resolve project conflicts and contract discrepancies.
• Provide technical expertise on constructability challenges and site access.

7. Large-Scale Project Execution

• Oversee the execution of complex, large-scale construction projects with efficiency and precision.

8. Commissioning & System Integration

• Support and coordinate commissioning activities, particularly for MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) systems.

9. Leadership & Communication

• Work independently while maintaining strong communication with leadership and project teams.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

Education: High School Diploma (Required)
Certifications:

• OSHA 30-Hour Certification
• Army Corps of Engineers - Construction Quality Management (CQM) Certification
• Valid Driver’s License

Experience:

• 5-7 years in data center construction, specializing in mechanical and electrical installations.

Technical Skills:

• Proficiency in MS Office Suite.
• Familiarity with construction management software (Timberline preferred).

Knowledge & Expertise:

• Strong understanding of building codes, safety regulations, and construction processes.
• Expertise in construction scheduling and cost control.
• Exceptional problem-solving and independent decision-making skills.
• Strong leadership and interpersonal skills to manage diverse teams.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management (Preferred).

Physical Demands

• Ability to talk, hear, and perform manual tasks.
• Ability to stand, walk, stoop, and occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
• Extended periods of sitting and close vision work on computer-based tasks.
