What are the responsibilities and job description for the Accounting - AVP Assistant Controller position at Metro Credit Union?
Position Summary:
Assist with maintaining the overall financial and statistical records of the Credit Union. Support the VP Controller in the management and oversight of the accounting operations team. Ensure that critical assigned accounting functions are prioritized and completed on time.
Essential Job Functions:
Oversee daily liquidity and cash management process. Work with the senior management on cash strategies to ensure that funding requirements are maintained daily.
Analyze and perform review, set-up, processing, and reporting for more complex accounting areas of the credit union.
Manages the allowance for credit loss process, including oversight of monthly calculation, tracking and analysis of impaired loans, and preparation of quarterly allowance for loan loss memo.
Manage reconciliation process, including review of staff reconciliations, management of the monthly certification process and oversight of the general ledger risk rating matrix. Perform reconciliations and research for more complex balance sheet accounts, as needed.
Maintain general ledger accounts, structure, mapping, and regulatory reporting. Work with third party core vendor to ensure mapping of all products and transactions is appropriate.
In conjunction with senior finance management, manage period-end (e.g., month, quarter, or year) financial closing process. Perform analysis of income and expenses and research for various general ledger accounts, as well as analysis of margin and provide explanation for variances.
In conjunction with senior finance management, manage investment portfolio accounting and all required processes, such as pre-purchase analysis requirements, as stipulated in the Investment Policy. Oversee settlement and funding of all investment transactions.
Prepares regulatory reporting such as the quarterly 5300 report
Prepare periodic internal and regulatory financial reports required by management, examiners, and auditors. Work with Certified Public Accountants (“CPAs”), examiners, and compliance auditors reviewing financial records of the credit union. Rectify any findings that are found during review.
Prepare monthly and quarterly Board and Committee packages. Review deliverables prepared by staff, as well as review and prepare narratives.
Requirements:
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting or an equivalent combination of education and work experience strongly preferred. Master’s degree in finance or accounting and/or CPA license strongly preferred.
Minimum 5 years of banking or credit union accounting experience strongly preferred.
Prior experience using spreadsheet software and general ledger software and related modules required.
Prior experience with operating system-based applications, including office software products strongly preferred.
Prior experience developing or auditing accounting procedures in an effective control environment strongly preferred
Skills/Knowledge/Certifications
Demonstrated knowledge of accounting principles.
Knowledge of state and federal banking regulations.
Proven ability to work within a collaborative team environment.
Excellent communication and analytical skills.
Excellent computing skills including general ledger, loan, deposit and related software and experience with office software applications.
Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with internal and external parties, provide leadership for the department and influence senior level management as needed.
