Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced, skilled, and compassionate Nurse Manager to oversee operations in both our dermatology clinic and ambulatory surgery center (ASC). This leadership position requires a strong clinical background, exceptional organizational skills, and the ability to manage day-to-day operations while ensuring the clinic and surgery center remain compliant with regulatory standards, including AAAHC, Medicare, and life safety codes. The Nurse Manager will also be hands-on, providing direct patient care, assisting with surgeries (including Mohs micrographic surgery), and supporting dermatologic procedures. This role combines clinical expertise with management responsibilities to maintain high standards of care and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical & Surgical Leadership:

  • Oversee and manage the clinical operations within both the dermatology clinic and the ASC, ensuring efficient workflows and exceptional patient care.
  • Provide direct patient care as a working manager, including assisting in surgical procedures, performing Mohs closures, and patient assessments
  • Scrub, circulate, and assist in surgical procedures, including Mohs micrographic surgery and other dermatologic treatments.
  • Administer local anesthesia as directed by the physician and provide post-operative care, including wound care and dressing applications.
  • Monitor patient safety and comfort before, during, and after procedures.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of clinical best practices, ensuring compliance with AAAHC standards and Medicare guidelines.

Regulatory Compliance & Quality Assurance:

  • Develop, write, and implement policies and procedures that align with AAAHC and Medicare certification requirements.
  • Ensure continuous compliance with AAAHC accreditation standards, including conducting regular self-assessments, preparing for inspections, and addressing any deficiencies noted during inspections.
  • Oversee and manage the quality assurance program, ensuring that patient safety, infection control, and other clinical protocols are consistently adhered to
  • Ensure compliance with life safety standards and maintain a safe environment for both patients and staff.
  • Coordinate and manage regular audits and reviews of clinical processes and documentation to ensure the surgery center and clinic are in full regulatory compliance.

Surgical Center Operations:

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the ambulatory surgery center, ensuring smooth and efficient procedures and patient care.
  • Oversee the sterilization, preparation, and organization of surgical instruments and equipment in line with infection control and safety standards.
  • Assist in patient positioning, surgical draping, and ensuring optimal surgical access.
  • Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and medical staff to ensure smooth surgical workflows and optimal patient outcomes.
  • Ensure that all medical records are accurately maintained in the electronic medical record (EMR) system.

Staff Management & Development:

  • Lead, train, and develop clinical and administrative staff, ensuring they have the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their roles.
  • Supervise and provide guidance to clinical staff, including RNs, medical assistants, and surgical technicians.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations, provide constructive feedback, and identify areas for professional development.
  • Foster a collaborative and supportive team culture, encouraging open communication, teamwork, and continuous learning.

Administrative & Leadership Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and review policies and procedures to ensure they meet all regulatory and safety standards.
  • Collaborate with administrative leadership to budget, order supplies, and maintain appropriate inventory levels.
  • Oversee patient documentation and ensure it meets clinical and regulatory standards.
  • Address patient and staff concerns promptly and effectively, ensuring the clinic and surgery center maintain a high level of customer satisfaction and operational efficiency.
  • Lead the development of educational materials for patients regarding pre-operative and post-operative care, skin cancer prevention, and general dermatologic health.

Certifications & Training:

  • Ensure that the surgery center is always prepared for AAAHC inspections, ensuring readiness and compliance with all required standards.
  • Oversee the process for maintaining and renewing necessary certifications, including BLS, ACLS, and other clinical competencies for staff.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest developments in dermatology, surgery center management, and relevant healthcare regulations.

Qualifications:

  • Current RN license in Illinois.
  • At least 3-5 years of experience in a dermatology or surgery center setting, with a strong understanding of clinical operations and management.
  • Previous experience in a Nurse Manager role or similar leadership position preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of AAAHC standards, Medicare regulations, and life safety codes.
  • Experience in policy and procedure writing, quality assurance, and accreditation maintenance.
  • BLS and ACLS certification (or willingness to obtain). * Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with dermatology-specific EMR systems (e.g., EMA, ModMed).
  • Familiarity with regulatory compliance for ambulatory surgery centers, including inspection preparation and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Understanding of patient safety protocols and infection control practices.
  • Ability to mentor and develop a diverse team in a collaborative, patient-focused environment.

Schedule & Work Environment:

  • Split time between the dermatology clinic and ambulatory surgery center.
  • Daytime hours, with occasional extended shifts based on surgery schedules.
  • Clinical setting with frequent patient interaction and leadership responsibilities.
  • Exposure to bloodborne pathogens (protective equipment required).
  • Requires standing for extended periods, lifting up to 25 lbs., and occasional administrative desk work.
