JOB SUMMARY: Metro Engineering Solutions, LLC (?MES?) is looking for a Utility Designer/Planner to join our team! MES is a multifaceted utility and telecommunications engineering firm serving clients throughout the Midwest. The Utility Designer is responsible for working effectively in a variety of computer systems and software applications while providing internal and power utility clients with utility design services and solutions needed to accurately construct OH/UG power distribution systems.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Select and interpret data, on a map-based platform such as ESRI/Google Earth.
- Performs various field inspections of overhead/underground construction for compliance and to customer standards.
- Advise customers and other contractors of standards relating to new and/or upgraded service requirements for secondary.
- Write construction orders for both overhead/underground secondary jobs.
- Negotiates with prospective, residential, and commercial customers if needed on behalf of client if requested.
- Participates in meeting or group discussions; provides advice and direction on products and/or services.
- Prepares proposals, presentations, work unit policies/procedures as needed. Facilitates group discussions and participates in employee training.
- Understand overhead distribution and specifications of our client?s needs to develop the appropriate design solution(s).
- Conduct research, appropriate field visits and support scoping of jobs.
- Other duties as assigned by Project Manager.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School diploma and/or equivalent with satisfactory completion of high school courses in any three of the following: drafting/CAD, basic electricity, physics, and mathematics which includes geometry or fundamentals of geometry and trigonometry or technical mathematics.
- Associates degree in technical or design field preferred.
- Minimum two (2) years of experience in electrical utility planning role if the above-mentioned education requirements cannot be matched or exceeded.
- Experience performing overhead/underground power distribution design preferred.
- Experience with AutoCAD and Civil3D; experience with ESRI, Arc-GIS, and MicroStation preferred.
- Experience with all phases of engineering document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications preferred.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Interpret sketches, drawings, building program and other similar material.
- Primarily work in an office setting.
- Ability to travel and/or work in the field as needed.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
- Compensation ranges between $25.00 to $40.00 per hour, depending on experience.
