A Home Care Aide (HCA) or Family Home Care Aide (FHCA) is a person who performs household chores that include; housekeeping, meal planning and preparation, shopping assistance, and routine household activities for the elderly, person with disabilities or convalescent individual.
A HCA provides personal care with means assistance to a Participant in the activities of daily living, such as dressing, bathing, eating, or personal hygiene, and assistance in physical transfer, ambulating and in supervision of medications as permitted by rule.
Universal Metro Asian Services (UMAS) is a Not-For-Profit organization that aims to serve immigrant populations of India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, the Middle East, Latin America and Europe.
Roles and Responsibilities
The Home Care Aide / Family Home Care Aide is responsible for performing the tasks listed in the Plan of Care for each assigned Participant. The Home Care Aide is supervised by the Home Care Supervisor and must report any problems or concerns to the pertinent Supervisor.
Specific Duties:
Home Care Aides must be able to perform the following tasks in a capable manner:
- To maintain the home in the optimum state of cleanliness and safety depending upon the clients and the Home Care Aide’s resources;
- Clean the kitchen, including the sink, counters, the stove, the refrigerator, cabinets, the table, and chairs;
- Clean the bathroom;
- Changing Linens;
- Dust and sweep;
- Uses household equipment and supplies safely;
- Sweep Floors;
- Vacuum Carpeted floors;
- Wash, sort, fold, and put away participant’s laundry, using a washing machine and dryer;
- Plan, prepare, and serve nutritious meals;
- Shop for food and household essentials;
- Assist the participant with payment of bills;
- Remind the participant to take medication and assist with uncapping of bottles;
- Assist with transferring the participant to and from the bed, chair, toilet, etc;
- Assist with or give the participant a bath, either at the sink, in the tub, or in bed with sponge;
- Groom the participant, including washing hair and/or shaving and nail care;
- Dressing the Participant; Escort the Participant;
- Reports any changes in the participant’s condition to the supervisor;
- Respiratory Services as explained by Home Care supervisor;
- Assist participant with exercise/Range of motions;
- Attend Pre-Service and In-Service training;
- Other duties, as assigned by the Home Care Supervisor;
- Accurately documents services on the Monthly Activity Task Report (MATR) and submits documentation in a timely manner as per agency policy;
Requirements
Qualifications include:
- Education: Highschool Diploma or equivalent or in lieu of a Diploma one year of employment in a comparable human service capacity or experience in care of adult family member.
- The Home Care Aide must be physically able to do the tasks listed above.
- The Home Care Aide must be willing to attend trainings, as required by the CCP IDoA Rules and Regulations.
- The Home Care Aide should have experience in caring for older people and/or persons with disabilities and must have a basic knowledge of good housekeeping and cooking.
