Medical Drivers work in our Wheelchair Division performing non-emergency wheelchair transportation. This is a great entry-level position for those looking to start their careers in healthcare while gaining an entry level EMS certification. We offer a variety of 10 and 12-hour shifts, and most of our full time Medical Drivers work three 12-hour shifts per week. This position operates out of both our Clackamas and Hillsboro locations.
This position will be required to attend a one week New Employee Orientation (NEO) and a two week EMR (Emergency Medical Responder) Academy currently scheduled for February 17th through March 7th. This training is paid with a 6 month employment commitment. In addition to the initial paid EMR training, we also offer EMT and Paramedic school tuition assistance as well as flexible schedules that work around your school schedule if you are later enrolled in an EMT or Paramedic program, or are taking pre-requisite courses for Paramedic school.
Essential Job Duties include:
- Providing safe wheelchair transportation to doctor’s offices, hospital discharges, dialysis center appointments, hospice, etc.
- Working closely with a variety of patients and care providers
- Provide excellent customer services to all clients including hospital systems and long-term care providers
- Understand company policies and procedures and adhere to client confidentiality and rights
- Maintain a professional image and attitude and all times
Requirements include:
- Minimum of 21 years in age
- Valid Oregon or Washington driver’s license (if licensed out of state, must obtain in state driver’s license within 30 days) and at least 2 years of driving experience within the United States
- Attendance of an EMR Academy with a 6-month employment commitment upon completion
- Applicants must meet Metro West Ambulance’s motor vehicle record, National/Federal and criminal background check, drug & alcohol screening, and physical requirement standards. Metro West Ambulance is a drug free work place.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule
Required Training:
- CPR & First Aid Certification (this is paid training provided during academy)
- Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) Certification - Applicants must complete the full EMR course provided during academy and pass the final exam to continue with employment. This paid training does come with a 6-month employment commitment which begins upon EMR certification.
