What are the responsibilities and job description for the ACCESS Mechanic position at Metro?
Metro is seeking an experienced Mechanic that will perform routine maintenance and repairs on all fleet vehicles, shop equipment and facilities for our paratransit division Access.
JOB DUTIES
- Understand the theory, operation, and repair of gas diesel engines, heating and cooling, and brake systems
- Learn and follow industrial and shop safety rules
- Read and interpret technical manuals and schematics
- Effectively use computers and the company’s software programs for inventory and parts
- Must be able to properly prioritize, implement and manage work schedules, projects and assignments
- Perform engine and transmission replacements, air conditioning repairs, drivability diagnosis and electrical and wiring problems
- Perform other duties as assigned or required
QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED)
- Have taken basic automotive or heavy duty repair courses
- Must have 5 years of experience as a full time journey level mechanic
- Possess a “Master” ASE Certification
- Must have good understanding of basic automotive/heavy duty systems
- Must have a rolling steel tool box and the needed tools to complete “B” level work
- Must possess, or be able to obtain within 90 days of employment, a valid Class D drivers’ license
- Experience as a certified “A” Mechanic preferred
- Experience fueling and fluids topped preferred, but not required
- Customer Service experience preferred
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Must be able to communicate effectively with all levels of staff in written and oral formats
- Experience with word processing, spreadsheets and Microsoft Outlook
- Excellent problem solving and multi-tasking skills
- Work well with others and display initiative, tact and professionalism at all times
