The Substance Abuse Specialist provides interventions to assist consumers with both mental health and substance abuse issues. The Substance Abuse Specialist assures services as defined on the treatment plan are implemented, that the consumer is actively working toward stated objectives and the family is involved as appropriate.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (Other duties may be assigned.)
- Provide Community Support services to assigned cases on caseload as well as cases assigned to the treatment team
- Possess knowledge of mental illness, substance abuse issues and symptomology, DSM IV diagnostic criteria and treatment methods
- Strives to attain successful consumer outcomes in coordination with treatment team members
- Implement Clinical Algorithms as defined by the Mental Health Division of Metrocare Services
- Complete documentation of services provided to consumers within 24 hours of service
- Conduct CD assessments, provide CD/substance abuse intervention and prevention in individual and group settings

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university plus two years experience in substance abuse or mental health services. LCDC licensure preferred.

- Ability to be responsive to consumer, family and community needs.
- Ability to conduct CD assessments
- Ability to work with minimal direct supervision
- Ability to provide CD/substance abuse intervention/prevention in group and individual settings
- Ability to work flexible hours and work on-call status
- Ability to maintain composure in stressful environments and respond appropriately
- Ability to provide Community Support Services to consumers.
COMPUTER SKILLS:
- Intermediate level on MS Excel, Email and word processing programs
- Ability to utilize Internet for resources.
