Patient Experience
· Greets and guides patients through the sample collection process
· Delivers high quality customer service
· Ensures patients feel safe and respected during the procedure
· Minimizes patient wait times based on both scheduled appointments and presentation
· Addresses patient complaints; reports unresolved complaints to the Site Manager or Lab Manager promptly, as appropriate
Operations
· Ensure that the workplace has the necessary supplies and tools to perform daily operational activities
· Adjust, as needed, the courier pick-ups to minimize unnecessary courier trips due to low sample volume
· Performs daily review of “Release Stored Orders” utilizing the Orchard software
· Ensures all testing orders are in the “Release Stored Order” list to minimize missed testing
· Performs phlebotomy only on patients that have appropriate orders
· Performs phlebotomy in a timely manner from when the patient has been “activated” in the EMR.
· Provides daily lab cancellation forms to the clinical staff and lab technical staff
· Processes samples so they meet SOP requirements for testing
· Processes lab specimen send outs to reference labs based on specific requirements
· Perform add-on testing retrieval/notification
· Covers other satellite offices when needed
· Performs other duties as assigned
· Actively reads emails daily
· Participates in a system wide team approach through open and timely communication
· Demonstrates flexibility in office assignment
· Willingness to change assigned location with minimal but adequate notice
· Demonstrates the ability to work in various environments with different work practices
· Demonstrates positive communication and teamwork skills with all staff members
Work Quality
· Compliant with CLIA regulations through proper specimen collection, processing, and storage
· Verifies two patient identifiers during patient identification, collection and sample processing.
· Demonstrates high accuracy level for appropriate sample processing for MNA in-house testing
· Demonstrates high accuracy level for appropriate lab specimen processing for reference laboratory testing
· Demonstrates accuracy in computer data review and data entry
· Ensures no harm to patient during phlebotomy procedure
Regulatory
· Maintains current knowledge of standard operating procedures
· Completes annual OSHA and HIPAA training
· Completes OSHA required logs as assigned
· Practices safe work practices by adhering to all OSHA standards
· Ensures patient safety
· Ensures specimen collection area is clean and safe
· Completes staff competency requirements and educational training as assigned
Requirements
Attendance: Regular, reliable, and punctual attendance is an essential function of this position. The ability to consistently adhere to scheduled work hours and fulfill job responsibilities in a timely manner is critical to the success of the role and the overall operations of the team.
- Minimum of one year experience in phlebotomy in a healthcare setting is preferred.
- Medical practice experience helpful.
- Knowledge of phlebotomy techniques.
- Knowledge of clinic protocols and policies.
- Skill in performing efficient and effective draws.
- Skill in conducting cooperative interactions with patients and staff.
- Ability to interpret and respond appropriately to instructions.
- Ability to coordinate hand-eye movements to ensure patient comfort during blood draws.
- Involves standing and bending over 90 percent of the day, walking or sitting the remainder, with some lifting.
- Must be able to lift at least 30 pounds and able to assist with patient transport and transfer.
