POSITION DESCRIPTION: Manor House Programs and Events Assistant

POSITION GOAL: To provide excellent customer service for visitors through positive and engaging experiences for Metroparks visitors and program participants.

CLASSIFICATION: Hourly/Seasonal

COMPENSATION: $12.50 per hour. Employer and employee contribute to Public Employees Retirement System.

REPORTS TO: Manor House Coordinator

DIRECT REPORTS: None

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Open and close Manor House; assure security of the House.
  • Assist with all phases of Manor House interpretive programs and tours.
  • Lead Manor House guided tours and special Manor House programs.
  • Provide assistance in analyzing program data/feedback and recommending/implementing improvements..
  • Provide education to the public regarding the natural heritage of Northwest Ohio.
  • Provide appropriate care of historical furnishings and photo exhibits as needed.
  • Coordinate with staff to train volunteers and effectively direct the work of volunteers.
  • Assist with rental and program set up and clean up as needed.
  • May be required to move tables and chairs, set up projection screens and AV equipment, and arrange furniture for programs.
  • Ensure clean, well-maintained work areas and public facilities; perform light household maintenance tasks.
  • Assist with manor house and special event tasks; may include greeting and directing guest and visitors, running errands, retriebing supplies, setting up buffets, etc…
  • Provide excellent customer service to Manor House visitors and the public; respond to customer questions and handle customer service issues.
  • Assist with other historical and environmental programs and special events throughout Metroparks as assigned.
  • Transport visitors through the parks driving a Metroparks pickup truck towing a 25’ tram/trailer and/or drive a 14 passenger minibus (training provided).
  • Help maintain a safe environment for park visitors and program participants at all times.
  • Attend all in-service training programs including CPR/First Aid certification and National Association of Interpretation Certification (CIG).
  • Other Park District work related duties as assigned.

EQUIPMENT USED: Standard office equipment such as computers, multi-line phone, copy machine, utility vehicle, passenger bus, golf cart with or withoug trailer, safety equipment and audiovisual equipment. Household equipment such as dishwasher, vacuum cleaner, washer and dryer. Historical props.

Requirements:

MINIMUM POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Alternates to the following position requirements may be made as Metroparks finds appropriate and acceptable.

Education: Must have completed some college course work in history, education, communication, or related program or equivalent work experience.

Experience: Some experience in customer service, and public speaking. Experience leading public programs preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Valid drivers license with acceptable driving record.
  • Must have the ability to communicate in an articulate, intelligent and friendly manner when serving the public or interacting with other staff.
  • Attention to organization and details.
  • Ability to achieve goals and work independently.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to work as a part of a team.
  • Able to understand and follow oral and written procedures and instructions.
  • Basic analytical and research skills.
  • Computer skills in current technology.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:

  • Work schedule: Flexible work week; up to 35 hours per week, not to exceed 1456 hours per season. March through December; including weekends, holidays and some evenings. Schedule will vary depending on work available.
  • Requires lifting and carrying up to 25 lb.
  • Location: Wildwood Preserve; may be required to travel to other Metroparks or locations in Lucas County.
  • May require business use of personal vehicle.
