The Public Policy Team works to protect our state business climate and regional reputation by supporting key policies at the state and local levels that impact metro Atlanta’s economy, talent, and community. The Government Affairs Internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in public policy and government relations outside of the legislative session.

The Government Affairs Intern will help support MAC staff members to shape policy impacting the region and state. Preferred skills for this internship include a desire to learn new skills, a willingness to perform public policy research, and the ability to communicate professionally to ensure MAC’s success.

Our ideal candidate is a high-achiever, self-starter, and team player with an interest in learning about how the business community engages in the political process. Successful candidates will be organized, possess strong networking and communication skills, and demonstrate personal capability in managing multiple projects without constant supervision. Responsibilities will vary and will be based on needs. Candidates are expected to work 20 hours a week with the ability to work during necessary event dates.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct research on legislative and policy issues affecting the business community
  • Leverage writing skills for policy briefings, memos, letters, and other publications for staff and stakeholders
  • Assist in coordinating events including planning, logistics, and execution
  • Monitor key elections and provide updates on election-related developments
  • Build relationships with Public Policy team members, MAC staff, and other partners
  • Assist with additional administrative tasks and additional projects as needed


Qualifications

  • Ability to work 20 hours per week
  • Background in public policy, political science, government affairs, public affairs, communications or related fields is desirable, but not required
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Organized with ability to prioritize time-sensitive assignments
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team in a dynamic and fast-paced environment
  • Strong interest in state government and the legislative process
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Ability to lift items weighing 30 pounds
