The coordinator manages academic support services. This position provides initial training to academic support staff and embedded staff to ensure tutoring consistency and excellence across service locations and works with Learning and Tutoring Center, Math Center, and Writing Center staff to ensure delivery of specialized training and professional development across academic support areas. The coordinator supervises Writing Center and Math Center staff, tracks student success data, and acts as a liaison with faculty and staff to determine courses and student groups in need of academic support and to design appropriate interventions.

ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS:

1. Designs, facilitates, and delivers new hire and ongoing training for all department staff, providing feedback as needed.
2. Supervises Writing Center and Math Center staff members at multiple college locations.
3. Coordinates with subject area specialists, including Math Center and Writing Center staff, to determine training needs and design specialized training components.
4. Coordinates and facilitates communication and group training as needed among tutors and regular staff who tutor in the same subject area across MCC’s academic support locations.
5. Collaborates and continually communicates with academic departments, faculty, and other academic and instructional support areas to design and maintain a seamless network of student support.
6. Helps plan, implement, monitor, and manage collaborative academic support services, including modified SI (Supplemental Instruction), embedded tutoring, peer mentoring, and other academic support initiatives across the college.
7. Builds and maintains relationships with academic departments and Students Affairs staff in order to identify academic support needs, update instructional resources, and plan appropriate interventions.
8. Tracks student success data to determine and prioritize courses and sections that need embedded support.
9. Assigns and schedules SI Leaders, embedded tutors, and peer mentors to course sections each quarter.
10. Prepares reports showing operational activities and services.
11. Participates in a variety of committees/meetings, in order to receive and convey information.
12. Attends work activities or programs as scheduled or assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

1. Proficiency in tutoring techniques and familiarity with basic strategies for providing tutoring and instructional support.
2. Knowledge of Supplemental Instruction or other peer-assisted learning models preferred.
3. Working knowledge of current and best practices in academic support.
4. Proficient computer skills with the ability to learn new software.
5. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and other college supported systems.
6. Excellent communication skills including active listening.
7. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
8. Ability to supervise assigned staff.
9. Ability to work well with minimal supervision in a team-orientated environment.
10. Ability to demonstrate cooperation and professionalism while maintaining patience and understanding in stressful situations.
11. Ability to build productive, respectful relationships with faculty, staff, and students.
12. Ability to design training modules for in-person and online use.
13. Ability to lead dynamic training sessions and provide constructive feedback to professional and peer academic support staff.
14. Ability to think flexibly and creatively while solving complex problems.
15. Ability to effectively work and interact with various cultures and ethnicities.

Required Qualification
Master’s degree with minimum three (3) years related work experience in tutoring, learning centers, academic coaching, or a similar academic support field in a higher education setting.

Minimum one (1) year of supervisory experience.

Training and/or teaching experience at the post-secondary level

Obtain Supplemental Instruction Supervisor certification within six months of hire

Equivalent combination of education and/or work experience considered.
Preferred Qualifications Physical Demands
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

Ability to lift up to 20 pounds.
Salary/Hourly Rate $50,710 minimum Department Academic Support
