What are the responsibilities and job description for the Bloch Scholars Program Coordinator position at Metropolitan Community College?
- Bachelor's degree
- 3 years of experience related to education, counseling, scholarship programs,
- and/or student support services.
- Minimum Education Qualification can be substituted with an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
Master's degree.
Normally scheduled Monday through Friday; however, may be required to work other shifts to include evenings and/or weekends. Schedule subject to change based upon department needs.

Incumbents develop, grow, coordinate, and manage the Bloch Scholars Program across the District and recruit, award, advise, coach, and support Bloch Scholars.
Bloch Scholar Recruitment and Intake (30%)
o Lead scholarship awarding process: recruitment, eligibility screening, application review,
and selection.
o Maintain and work a list of prospective Bloch Scholars throughout the year.
o Conduct scholarship workshops and information sessions at area high schools and
across the District.
o Update website and recruitment materials annually.
o Build and update Bloch Scholars application annually.
o Design and create marketing and recruitment materials for the Bloch Scholars Program.
o Create templates and guides for scholarship requirements, scholar expectations, and
general MCC navigation.
o Screen applicants to ensure they meet eligibility criteria.
o Head a committee to assist with interviewing prospective Bloch Scholars.
o Coordinate a Bloch Scholars Orientation to onboard new Scholars annually.
Bloch Scholar Coaching and Retention (30%)
o Meet with current Bloch Scholars at least twice each semester.
o Monitor Bloch Scholar academic progress and send faculty surveys each semester.
o Work with each Bloch Scholar to develop a degree plan based on their transfer school of
choice (UMKC or Rockhurst) and intended degree.
o Advocate for Bloch Scholars to ensure their academic and personal needs are being met.
o Review Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) with Bloch Scholars every semester.
o Ensure Bloch Scholars are meeting important milestones each year (ex. FAFSA
completion, applying to graduate, sending transcripts, etc.).
o Monitor Bloch Scholars each semester to ensure they are meeting program
requirements. Work to develop an Academic Probation plan for students not meeting
program requirements.
Programming and Workshops (15%)
o Coordinate and attend transfer visits to Rockhurst and UMKC for Bloch Scholars.
o Develop programming for Bloch Scholars to promote persistence and degree
completion.
o Plan events for Bloch Scholars to connect with one another and foster community.
o Collaborate with other on-campus departments (Campus Life & Leadership, Career
Services, Counseling, Project Success, Student Support Services, etc.) to ensure Bloch
Scholar needs are met.
Grant Management and Compliance and Reporting (10%)
o Create and submit quarterly reports to the Bloch Foundation.
o Send report of prospective Bloch Scholars candidates to the Bloch Foundation for
approval each recruitment cycle.
o Draft and send an invoice to the MCC Foundation and Bloch Foundation each semester
based on Bloch Scholar enrollment.
o Track Bloch Scholar progress and monitor the number of terms they have utilized the
Bloch Scholarship.
o Manage an assigned budget by monitoring and authorizing program expenditures, and
making and implementing recommendations related to budget processes and
procedures to ensure grant compliance.
o Strategic Planning - develop strategic recruitment and retention plans for the Bloch
Scholars Program. Create measurable goals to track program growth and sustainability.
Bloch Scholars Program Liaison (15%)
o Serve as liaison for the Bloch Scholars Program between MCC and the Bloch Foundation
and other Bloch Scholar serving institutions (Donnelly College, UMKC, and Rockhurst
University).
o Foster and grow relationships with community partners (ex. Hispanic Development Fund
(HDF), City Year, Literacy KC, etc.) and area high schools (KCPS, Charter Schools, Middle
College Program, etc.).
o Oversee the expansion of the Bloch Scholars Program throughout the District by
educating relevant staff (Academic Advisors, Financial Aid, Student Support Services,
etc.) across all campuses about the Bloch Scholarship.
o Appoint and supervise an Academic Advisor at each campus to assist with Bloch Scholar
advising and support.
