What are the responsibilities and job description for the Jr. Estimator position at Metropolitan Companies?
Metropolitan Companies is looking for a Jr. Estimator to join our team! The Jr. Estimator will assist with estimating work for commercial, residential, and multi-family projects. This position is required to estimate labor, time, and materials of construction projects by analyzing blueprints, specifications, and proposals to compute the overall cost of the project. Responsibilities:
- Review blueprints, product specifications, and utilize company software to accurately determine time, cost, labor, and quantities of materials needed for projects.
- Work with architects as needed for changes, questions, etc. on blueprints and building plan documents.
- Assist with the preparation of detailed cost estimates of materials by analyzing plans and specifications.
- Utilize spreadsheets and company software to input dimensions and other data to calculate projected costs of proposed projects.
- Assist with reviewing subcontractor proposals and assist with contract negotiations.
- Document total materials needed and contact information necessary to process orders.
- Consult with clients, vendors, and personnel in other departments to discuss and formulate estimates.
- Perform quality take-offs.
- Prepare cost and expenditure statements and other necessary documentation for the duration of the project.
- Assess cost effectiveness of products, projects or services through the duration of the project.
- Perform other duties as assigned and required.

- Detail-oriented.
Requirements:
- HS diploma or GED.
- Bachelor’s Degree is preferred.
- 2 years’ experience in residential or commercial construction.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Ability to read blueprints.
- Ability to travel to job sites if needed.
Preferred:
- Previous experience in Procore, Stack, Pro Est, ArchiCAD, Bluebeam, or other relevant software.
- Preconstruction experience
- MEP experience
