Our services include 100% affordable housing at 21 locations, family violence services, Holocaust survivor assistance, geriatric social work, crisis intervention and the largest free kosher food distribution program in the world. Our network of 101 food pantries, affordable housing sites, and affiliated JCCs provide services directly in neighborhoods across New York City.
Position Summary:
The Distribution and Operations Warehouse Coordinator is responsible for assisting the warehouse manager in the successful and efficient operations of Met Council’s kosher and halal food bank. The coordinator ensures that warehouse operations are well organized and executed. The coordinator is also a partner to the warehouse manager in ensuring that staff, space, equipment, and food are all well managed as they are critical assets to our success.
Principal Responsibilities:
- Assist warehouse manager by leading warehouse associates and floor staff in daily operations
- Coordinate support for inbound and outbound deliveries, including overseeing the loading and unloading of incoming trucks, supporting inventory processes, placing products in correct locations and communicating with inventory manager
- Load and unload Met Council trucks, making sure agencies’ delivery addresses are correct and that drivers have the proper information and equipment to safely make deliveries
- Ensure that inbound and outbound inventory procedures are followed, such as products being correct by count, brand, and that important dates & information are documented
- Expedite all daily orders to make sure all staff are using correct inventory
- Maintain maintenance schedule for equipment making sure all operational equipment are working perfectly
- Meet with warehouse management to coordinate warehouse activities, such as production, inventory operations, extermination, temperature logs, and any other important issues
- Train new personnel on warehouse operations
- Additional responsibilities as assigned

Skill and Education:
- Must have 3 years of experience managing teams and/or projects
- Ability to cross-train associates and lead personnel
- 2 years of relevant work experience in a warehouse environment
- Ability to operate warehouse equipment including, electric jacks & forklift
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Microsoft Teams and inventory management software.
- Working knowledge of Jewish dietary laws (Kashruth) and/or Muslim dietary laws (Halal) preferred, and/or willingness to learn
Physical Demands:
- Required Constantly: Walking, sitting, grasping, bending, stooping, squatting, computer input, finger dexterity and coordination of hand, eye and foot
- Required Frequently: Standing and climbing stairs; carrying laptop & files (approx. 8-10 lbs)
- Required Occasionally: Reaching above the shoulder, and lifting 5-50 pounds, pushing and pulling
Special Requirements:
- Comfort working both in a warehouse and in a shared office space
- Steel-toe work boots must be worn at all times while in the warehouse. Clothing should be appropriate for a professional setting and public interactions, avoiding any profanity, political statements or offensive branding.
Compensation: $22 per hour - $25 per hour.
