This is a temporary, limited-duration position, working from approximately January 15, 2025, and ending on or before April 30, 2025. The position hours will vary from 16-30 hours per week and the position requires availability as follows: Thursday through Monday 8:30 am – 5:00. This position does not offer benefits.

General Function:
Under the supervision of the Virtual Services and Technology Coordinator II, the Client Interpreter will support the Virtual Tax Site by triaging client inquiries as they come through the Virtual Tax Site phone line, providing interpretation services in Spanish for volunteer tax preparers, and translating Virtual Tax Site documents, upon request. This position will work from the MFS CASH Oregon Headquarters, located at 919 NE 19th Ave STE 200, Portland, OR 97232.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide interpretation support for Spanish-speaking clients, assisting with the client screening and intake process to ensure clients understand and are eligible for the MFS CASH Oregon tax preparation program.
- Acting as the central point of contact for the Virtual Tax Site’s phone line and communicating any missed calls or messages to the virtual team*.
*Client Interpreters will not be expected or authorized to answer questions regarding tax law.
- Support volunteer tax preparers to ensure information is understood by clients for whom English is a second language and for clients who speak Spanish only.
- Schedule and triage all Virtual Tax Site clients arriving at the in-person location.
- All positions might be expected to staff and support other tax sites when needed
- May be asked to provide assistance to the site with other tasks as needed
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- Ability to read, write and speak in English and Spanish fluently is required.
- Experience in providing interpretation services is very beneficial.
- Excellent customer service skills and experience working with diverse populations.
- Ability to effectively manage and maintain confidential and sensitive information.
- Work effectively within a team-dependent environment.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Demonstrate flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and responsibilities depending on the needs of the program.
- Excellent time management, prioritization, and organizational skills
- Ability to work all scheduled hours and maintain availability through the duration of the assignment
- Knowledge of and competency to operate a personal computer, utilization of the internet, and comfort in operating new technical platforms
- Competency in using Google Suite (Google Mail, Google Docs, and Google Sheets)
Education and Experience Requirements:
- High School diploma, GED or equivalent related experience
- Experience working in diverse communities and understanding and experience to effectively serve clients from Latino communities
- Ability to communicate fluently (read, write and speak) in Spanish and English is required
Other Requirements:
Personal transportation allowing for travel within the Portland Metropolitan area in a timely manner. If driving a personal vehicle must maintain a valid driver license for the state of residency, personal auto liability insurance coverage and a driving record permitting coverage under the agency auto liability policy.
MFS requires all employees and volunteers to complete a criminal background check which includes a fingerprint background check. We review the results of all background checks individually and consider all of the circumstances of any issues that arise in a background check during the hiring process.
Work Environment:
Work will be completed in person at the Gresham office location. Work is normally performed in a collaborative classroom/office environment and/or at other locations as deemed necessary. May require occasional early morning, weekend or evening work. Position requires regular use of computer, telephone, fax machine, scanner, copier and may require accessing locations by use of stairs.
