This position coordinates and provides direct library services, programs, and outreach to the public, about and for, Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and Deafblind individuals. Position performs administrative, supervisory duties involved in overseeing the statewide Library Services for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (LSDHH) Program.

  • Responsible for the planning and implementation of programming, outreach, and evaluation, of the LSDHH program.
  • Works at public information desks providing direct assistance to patrons who are Deaf, Hard of Hearing and Deafblind.
  • Provides information and referral services regarding all aspects of hearing loss, from locating resources to providing technology assistance.
  • Oversees content needs and is an active participant in maintaining the LSDHH website and social media accounts.
  • Designs programs and services to address the needs of individuals and/or groups of people experiencing hearing loss.
  • Collaborates and establishes working relationships with a variety of community organizations relating to hearing loss, general disabilities, and related service providers.
  • Creates, implements, oversees, and evaluates library services and outreach efforts.
  • Prepares and delivers presentations to various audiences.
  • Participates in budget planning and administration of budget.
  • Writes or assists with writing grant proposals and administers any grant monies received.
  • Supervises employees.
  • Serves as an in-library ASL interpreter.
  • Serves as a knowledgeable resource of information about all-related aspects of hearing loss.
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university and five (5) years of supervisory and/or administrative experience.
OR
Master's Degree from an accredited college or university and three (3) years of supervisory and/or administrative experience.

Note: Per Metro Ordinance No. SO94-1078. All employees of the Metropolitan Government shall be residents of the State of Tennessee or become residents of the state within six (6) months of employment as a prerequisite to employment with the Metropolitan Government.



  • Professional experience working with people who are Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and Deafblind
  • Interpreter certification or demonstrated fluency in American Sign Language
  • Experience using Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access)
  • Working knowledge of Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and other state and federal legislation impacting people with hearing loss
  • Knowledge of technologies used by and for the Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and Deafblind communities.
  • Bilingual Language Skills
