Position Description
This is a Civil Service position in the Social Services Department and is responsible for performing duties involved in operating a cargo van or Hot Shot delivery truck for the purpose of delivering services to program participants in their homes.
Metropolitan Social Services is in the business of helping Nashvillians who are experiencing hardship. Last year the department assisted more than 3600 new clients in addition to its ongoing case management customers. Services include counseling, information and referral, case management and other assistance. Typical Duties
- Deliver meals, nutritional education materials, and other items as needed to elderly and disabled populations as directed.
- Ensure route sheets are accurate and up to date prior to meal delivery.
- Ensure that the delivered meal route is current, efficient, and accurate for optimal delivery time.
- Complete and submit missed meal reports for clients daily.
- Maintain daily record of services.
- Communicate with appropriate Nutrition Supervisor regarding delivery concerns.
- Submit accurate monthly reports.
- Ensure accurate meal count, inventory, temperature and inspection of meals from food vendor.
- Collect donations from clients and transfer to responsible Nutrition staff.
- Inspect coolers for proper loading, packaging, and temperature of meals.
- Maintain proper operation and appearance of vehicles.
- Perform daily routine vehicle maintenance and safety checks.
- Report any needed repairs as well as arrange vehicle service and/or repair.
- Assist customers with minor household tasks, such as taking out trash, bringing in the mail, and warming meals.
Minimum Qualifications
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or equivalent
LICENSE REQUIRED:
Valid Drivers License

Note: Per Metro Ordinance No. SO94-1078. All employees of the Metropolitan Government shall be residents of the State of Tennessee or become residents of the state within six (6) months of employment as a prerequisite to employment with the Metropolitan Government.
Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of Davidson County area streets and major thoroughfares
- Knowledge of routine vehicle maintenance
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Familiar with proper food handling and storage
- Skill in communicating with diverse population
