Job Title: Orthopedic Surgical Tech (Certification not required)
Job Type: 13-week Contract to Permanent
Schedule:Days, 5x8s. 6:30a-3p. No nights, weekends, or major holidays
This is a multi-specialty Ambulatory Surgery Center. Surgical Techs with a specialty are expected to cross-train to become multi-specialty.
Required experience:
- Must have at least 2 years experience as a Surgical Tech
- Must be an experienced Surgical Tech
Reporting to the Clinical Director and according to department policies, procedures, and standards, prepares for scheduled operations, and arranges sterile set-up of instrument table. Assists surgeons by maintaining inventory and passing instruments and supplies, holding retractors, and assisting surgeons during course of surgery. Cleans operating room and stores equipment and supplies. Under general supervision, inspects, assembles, processes, and sterilizes instruments according to established policies and procedures for clean and dirty instruments depending on where assigned. Displays competency in less than 5 surgery services. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care that is appropriate to the ages of patients served (6 months through adult).
Recognizes significant conditions and reactions and notifies the RN, Charge Nurse, Anesthesia provider, and/or the physician of the patients condition. Adheres to a high standard of patient safety principles and aseptic and sterile techniques. Follows and understands the standards and recommended practices according to the Association of Operating Room Nurses (AORN) and Association of Surgical Technologist (AST).

QUALIFICATIONS:
- The job incumbent is required to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care appropriate to the age of the patients served on their assigned unit. This requires that the incumbent demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development as well as the physical, emotional, and psycho-social needs of the patient population served.
- Work requires the ability to read and write in order to interpret schedule and prepare for operative procedures, knowledge of basic anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology, through successful completion of an accredited program in Surgical Technology usually one year beyond high school.
- Work requires surgical technologist to be able to accurately identify large volumes of surgical instruments and supplies, acquire necessary familiarity with surgeons preferences, and gain knowledge of unit policies and procedures.
- Interpersonal skills necessary in order to interact with patients, surgeons, and other patient care personnel, often during emergency or stressful situations.
- Analytical skills necessary in order to organize and prepare operating room according to standard methods and procedures.
