What are the responsibilities and job description for the Maintenance Operations Manager position at Metropolitan Stevedore Company?
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the directing, improving, implementing and supervising the mechanical maintenance of all Terminal equipment including comprehensive preventative maintenance
- Responsible for all Terminal equipment mechanical safety and employee safeguarding
- Represents Maintenance Department at internal and external safety meeting as required by Management
- Design and assume responsibility for all maintenance of equipment under their supervision
- May assist with hiring, discipline and termination of all maintenance personnel
- Work with all departments to reach operational objectives
- Provide input to the company regarding specifications of the operational equipment
- Meet regularly with vendors to secure supply and cost objectives
- Evaluate and control all maintenance costs
- Evaluate maintenance programs to ensure they are accomplishing the intended objectives
- Provide training of maintenance personnel to improve performance and skills
- Stress workplace safety and training and participation in safety programs
- Communicate company policies to all maintenance personnel
- Participate in the acquisition of new or replacement equipment and disposition of used equipment
- Be familiar with computer control, management, and diagnostic programs that are used on the equipment under your supervision
- Constantly evaluate new technology as it is applied to equipment utilized by the company
- Communicate with operations department for dayside and nightside operation schedule
- Develop work for maintenance based on operations schedule for multiple shifts
- Review PM’s completed and write corrective w/o’s needed from pm findings
- Inventory control, parts checked out to jobs, re-order parts needed, payroll for maintenance as needed for multiple shifts
Qualifications:
- Two (2) year AA degree or equivalent experience working in maintenance and management
- 10 years’ experience in a related
- 5 years managing related union labor
- Journeyman’s License as a Millwright preferred
- Valid CPR certificate required
- Must have valid DL
- Thorough knowledge or principles of terminal operations
- Proven leadership
- Experience with computerized operating systems
- Knowledge of safety and accident prevention codes and regulations
- Knowledge and understanding of cargo stowage and stability strongly desired
- Knowledge of local unions dispatching
- Required to observe all safety and health requirements for container terminal
