Basic Function
Serves as a Technical Lead in accordance with organizational policies and goals. Supports, monitors, tests, and troubleshoots hardware and software problems pertaining to agency’s server and storage environment. Recommends and schedules repairs. Participates in requirements definition, specification, design, development, and integration of server technology. Installs and configures servers, storage, and systems software. Provides configuration management, inventory management, fault management and trouble management support on data center systems. Develops and writes procedures required to maintain all systems. Helps business operations utilize information systems to improve efficiency. Performs duties in a safe, efficient manner and in compliance with all applicable rules and safety procedures.
Responsibilities and Specific Duties
- Applies expert knowledge of concepts, best practices, and procedures for day-to-day support of METRO’s Data Center technology including Dell DataDomain, PowerMax, PowerEdge Computing and Storage systems, and Converged Infrastructure and management technologies.
- Applies expert understanding of virtual server and virtual desktop technologies including VMWare VSphere, VMWare Horizon, and Microsoft Remote Desktop Services.
- Applies expert understanding of Microsoft Windows, VMware, Azure, Intune, SUSE and / or RHEL based operating systems along with in-depth knowledge of Active Directory.
- Applies extensive experience toward managing, maintaining, and implementing data center technologies and operating systems including applying software upgrades, security patches, and planned maintenance for these systems.
- Applies expert knowledge of Storage Area Network fabric architecture and sound technology architecture principles to deliver high-quality, high performing and cost-effective solutions.
- Measures capacity and performance trends to determine long-term needs for operating systems and data center technologies.
- Responsible for communicating all system performance degradation to management.
- Maintains strict change control of data center technologies.
- Provides system metrics, root cause analysis, and proactive monitoring.
- Creates, tests, and updates disaster recovery plans.
- Develops and maintains technical documentation for all systems.
- Provides excellent customer service to METRO internal and external customers.
- Applies SMS (Safety Management System) methods and principles in daily routine and supports all aspects of the agency’s Public Transportation Agency Safety Plan (PTASP).
- Promotes safety awareness and follows safety procedures to reduce or eliminate accidents.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Pay Range : $95,300 - $125,100
Education Requirement
Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.
Years & Experience Required
Minimum of five (5) or more years of experience in relevant computing environment. Extensive knowledge of VMWare virtualization systems with day-to-day operation experience with these systems. Extensive knowledge with hands on experience in maintaining, operating, troubleshooting Dell Storage Area Network, Druva and VMWare environment. Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish projects / goals and ability to work on project teams, delivery on key project milestones, and communicate effectively with a wide variety of people. Scripting with Microsoft coding desirable.
Knowledge & Skills Required
Ability to apply technical understanding to a broad range of technical solutions and manage vendors and technical staff in the Data Center server environment. Excellent analytical skills in understanding complex relationships between various OS and specialty applications (Dell Storage, Dell OME, iDRAC, VMWare, Windows / Linux). Excellent customer service and organizational skills, strong interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills. Strongly desire certifications in VMWare or MCSE, EMC, SUSE, RHEL.
Salary : $95,300 - $125,100
