Description:
Basic Function
Performs fault diagnosis, inspections, tests and adjustments as well as routine and emergency maintenance on track equipment, systems and components. Performs duties in a safe, efficient manner and in compliance with applicable rules and safety procedures.
Responsibilities and Specific Duties
Performs track fault diagnosis, inspection, testing, modification, maintenance and repairs.
Performs shop and field repairs and metal working (welding) tasks on track infrastructure in accordance with discipline specific standards and specifications.
Prioritizes emergency maintenance tasks in the absence of on-site supervision
Records and documents maintenance and diagnostic data.
Works with track and equipment that is both signaled and carrying traction currents.
Provides variable shift coverage to accommodate maintenance assignments during peak, off-peak and non-revenue hours. Will provide on call availability for emergency and planned repairs and unscheduled incidents
Assists in the refinement of inspection and preventive maintenance programs for track section.
Assists in the review and revision of Standard Operating Procedures, safety procedures and work rules for both startup and revenue operations.
Works with staff and vendors as required ensuring adequate spare parts, tools and other necessary equipment is on hand to support revenue operations.
Assists other Rail Operations departments as necessary to ensure safe and reliable service.
May act as Track Supervisor during his absence.
Complies with all safety, operating and maintenance procedures. Works closely with peers, management and contractors to ensure a safe, reliable and efficient Light Rail Operation.
Provides excellent customer service to METRO internal and external customers.
Applies SMS (Safety Management System) methods and principles in daily routine and supports all aspects of the agency’s Public Transportation Agency Safety Plan (PTASP).
Promotes safety awareness and follows safety procedures to reduce or eliminate accidents.
Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Pay Range: $54,300 - $71,200
Education Requirement
High school diploma or equivalent is required.
Years & Experience Required
Minimum of four (4) years of track maintenance experience with a combination of technical, rail and/or electronics preferred. Experience with transit system equipment (Track) and Track Tools is mandatory. Minimum two (2) years of Track Maintenance discipline specific experience in the areas of tamping, regulating, and welding is preferred.
Knowledge & Skills Required
Required to complete METRO’s Rail Track Provisional Qualification Sheet Basic Principals of Track Maintenance within one (1) year and complete METRO Rail Track Provisional Qualification Sheet Advanced Principals of Track Maintenance within two (2) years. Possession or ability to obtain within 6 months a Texas Class B Commercial Driver’s License with air brake endorsement. Must meet METRO’s requirements regarding motor vehicle records. Good (verbal and written) communications and interpersonal skills are essential.
