We are looking for an HR Recruiter to lead the hiring process for CDL Drivers, Van Drivers, Bus Aides, and office staff at our school bus transportation company. This role is all about sourcing great candidates, managing the onboarding process, and ensuring compliance with all CDL and DOT requirements.
Role and Responsibilities:
- Full life cycle bus driver and office staff recruitment.
- Source and attract candidates through various channels such as job boards, social media, networking events, and direct sourcing.
- Plan and attend job fairs, parades, and community recruiting events.
- Conduct interviews and new employee onboarding and orientation, which may include sending invitations / notifications, and preparing new hire packets.
- Handle all onboarding paperwork: I-9s, driver’s license verification, DOT medical cards, and more.
- Maintain employee files and keep all hiring documentation organized and up to date ensuring compliance of all HR files including filing and auditing of files, EEO forms, I-9 forms, new hire paperwork, and termination paperwork in accordance with all local, federal and state legal requirements.
- Complete and review MVR, background, drug screens, previous employer verifications, clearinghouse, DOT Physicals, and other FMCSA verifications and ensure required documents are accurate and complete per federal / state guidelines and company policies.
- Maintain accurate records and reports related to recruiting and staffing metrics and provide analytical reports when requested.
- Lead company recruiting and retention strategy to improve the quality of hires and reduce turnover.
- Design, implement, and monitor our talent acquisition processes to ensure efficiency.
- Monitor and apply recruiting best practices.
- Maintain spreadsheets of current openings; and prepare and communicate weekly vacancies and new hires.
- Work closely with the training department to guide CDL applicants through the hiring and training process: CDL Permit Class → CDL Training → Licensing & Compliance
- Create all new employee paperwork and files in accordance with company standards and maintain the same for all current employees while following state and federal regulations.
- Function as a proactive driver advocate and liaison with other departments in the company.
- Facilitate communication between departments to ensure successful orientation, training, and hand off to operations.
- Assist with HR administration: respond to employee questions, audit files, and support compliance tracking.
- Develop a working knowledge of transportation laws and DOT regulations to have a strong understanding of what our candidates encounter daily.
- Maintain strict levels of confidentiality in all areas, and when handling sensitive information to ensure the candidate’s information is protected.
- Perform all other assignments & responsibilities as directed by the Human Resources Manager.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
- 3 years recruiting experience (preferably high-volume or blue-collar hiring).
- Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, Publisher, Teams).
