Position Summary

Under direct supervisor, this position is responsible to perform field/surveying duties.

Education

  • Required - High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
  • Required - Students must be currently attending college and/or enrolled in college classes for the fall of the year in which the summer program is taking place. Proof of enrollment may be requested.

Licenses, Certifications and/or Testing

  • Required - Have and maintain a valid driver’s license Upon Hire
  • Required - Summer Student Work Program Guidelines:
  • Students must be at least 18 years of age by the time they begin employment.
  • The expected work schedule for the Summer Student Work Program is 40 hours per week.
  • If possible, time-off requests should be presented during the interview to ensure proper coverage. All requests must be approved and requested as far in advance as possible.
  • The openings are Temporary Full-Time. Summer Student Workers are paid for time worked. All time-off will be unpaid, including holidays.
  • The Summer Student Work Program will begin on a specified date each year and will conclude on specified date each year. No summer employment will be extended beyond the end date determined each year.
  • Students selected for the Summer Student Work Program are required to pass a background check and a pre-employment drug screen as a condition of employment. Upon Hire
  • Required - Employee(s) in this position are covered under the Department of Transportation Drug and Alcohol testing provisions. This includes post-offer, random, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, follow-up, and return to duty testing. Upon Hire

  • Strong organizational skills; personal initiative, attention to thoroughness, accuracy and details.
  • Ability to work with general supervision.
  • Knowledge of the District’s service area preferred.

Essential Functions

  • Drive District vehicle in accordance with established District Driving and Safety policies and procedures, as well as strictly following traffic laws and ordnances.
  • Communicate with and assist customers, co-workers, and management professionally, regardless of provocation.
  • Field/Survey Worker Only:
  • Reads and records information using a hand-held device. Must be able to complete the assigned route daily.
  • Report all unusual conditions, events or occurrences immediately to supervisor.

  • Operates and performs routine maintenance on floor sweeper, riding mowers, snow blowers, small tractors and District vehicles

  • Frequent climbing on/off machinery etc. approximately 24 inches step
  • Constant horizontal reach for steering wheel
  • Frequent-constant sitting
  • Constant grasping of steering console and controls
  • Frequent push/pull of materials up to 60lbs of force
  • Frequent lifting/carrying materials, equipment, tools..etc. up to 60lbs (propane tank) heights and distances vary depending on workday.
  • Assists with cleaning various areas throughout the District buildings. Including shoveling, mopping, weeping and polishing floors.
  • Frequent ascending/descending ladders and stairs
  • Frequent push/pull of materials up to 60lbs of force
  • Occasional working in confined space, crawling
  • Occasional reclining to reach areas
  • Frequent lifting/carrying materials, equipment, trash, etc. up to 60lbs heights and distances vary depending on workday
  • Frequent walking on un even surfaces
  • Frequent overhead and below waist reaching
  • Occasional balancing during tasks
  • Cleans area as needed
  • Removes excess materials, moves tools, cleans area up to standard

Physical And Environmental Requirements

  • Field: Work inside and outside in all weather conditions and terrain for extended periods of time.
