Veterinary Technician – ICU Nurse
5,000 sign on bonus! Salary starting at $26.00 with an additional 25% shift differential!
Schedule : Thursday-Saturday 6 PM - 6 AM
We are looking to add to our growing hospital and are in search of a ICU Nurse (Veterinary Technician) with at least four years of experience in emergency / ICU veterinary medicine to work in our ICU Department. Rotation into the Emergency Department possible. Current CVT / LVT / RVT preferred or educational equivalent. VTS Certification highly regarded.
Our hospital's ICU nurses hold an invaluable role in providing superior and compassionate medical care to our most critically ill patients, while working collaboratively with our Critical Care specialists and experienced Emergency doctors.
Requirements
Your skills & experience and how you'll utilize them to help our patients :
- Experience in specialty veterinary medicine
- Broad knowledge of basic small animal medicine (pharmacology, proper restraint / handling, venipuncture, laboratory testing)
- Thorough understanding and knowledge of medical terminology, medications, and disease processes
- Attention to detail and a calm demeanor
- Ability to work in a fast paced environment
- Proficient computer skills, especially with veterinary software
- Caring for our critically ill patients in our dedicated ICU ward
- Perform various treatments (from placing peripheral and central catheters, maintaining urinary catheters and drain removal, to advanced interventions like mechanical ventilation).
- Perform drug dose calculations for injectable medications and CRIs
- Perform diagnostics
- Advanced monitoring and assessment of critical patients
- Anesthesia : Induction, monitoring, troubleshooting, recover patients
- Administer medications by IV, IM, SQ, PO, OU, OD
- Mentor other nursing team members
- Communicate with clients and team members (verbally and written)
- Fear Free handling : safe, stress free interactions for team members, clients, and patients
