Power and Data Installer

As a Power and Data Installer, you will install, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and document fiber optic, copper, and power cabling within airport terminals and Concourse buildings, shops, and related facilities for the Airports Authority.
This is a journey (full performance) level job.

Serves in the Electrical Division of the Maintenance Department at Washington Dulles International Airport.

Installs, maintains, and repairs wiring, conduit, and electrical components for facility build-outs and renovations while ensuring compliance with the National Electric Code (NEC) and Airports Authority standards. Responsibilities include maintaining cabling records, performing fiber optic and copper splicing, and testing and terminating connections. Performs related functions.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Installs wiring, junction boxes, switches, outlets, power connectors, and conduit in existing facility build-outs and facility renovations.
Performs electrical and low voltage work following the National Electric Code (NEC) and the Airports Authority Design Manual. Performs work to code to pass inspection.
Provides technical support and recommendations for changes in running line or construction methodologies due to environmental conditions, construction access by crews, and/or reduced congestion of utilities. Maintains and archives inside and exterior cabling plant records.
Supports the Airport Authority’s business locations to include IAD, Dulles Toll Road (DTR).
Determines correct procedures for OSP fiber optic and copper splicing and for ISP fiber optic and copper backbone splicing.
Tests and terminates fiber optic fusion splicing and copper splicing. Prepares and maintains splicing records and diagrams. Recognizes and repairs route and handhole/manhole issues.
Develops, implements, and maintains all engineering, drafting, and facilities records, work order preparation, and processing.
Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Four years of progressively responsible experience in the maintenance and repair of electronic equipment and systems, OR
Three years of education, experience, and training in the electronics trade plus one additional year of experience specializing in testing, diagnosis, maintenance, and repair of a range of electronic equipment and systems.
Full performance (journey) level knowledge of, and skill in, electronic equipment and system installation, testing, adjustment, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and replacement.
Skill in using tools, technical manuals, schematics, blueprints, manufacturer’s materials, and other equipment and guides in journey-level electrical and electronic work.
Ability to work safely and knowledge of the safety rules, regulations, and procedures needed to do so.
Ability to analyze data and information (including blueprints and schematics).
Ability to speak and write effectively.
Skill in using a computer, computerized work order, and time and attendance systems.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Certified Network Cable installer (CNCI)

Certified Fiber Optics Installer (CFOI)
Certified Fiber Optic Technician (CFOT)

Licensed as a Journey Electrician (or higher)
Bicsi Installer 2 Copper (INSTC) certification

Bicsi Installer 2 Fiber (INSTF) certification
EDUCATION
A high school diploma or a Certificate of General Educational Development (GED).
CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES REQUIRED
A state driver’s license in good standing.
NECESSARY SPECIAL FACTORS
Operates vehicle airside and landside (requires AOA permit).
Will operate aerial lift truck, scissor lift, and bucket trucks for use on overhead electrical systems and lighting repairs.
Work requires moderate to heavy physical exertion (including exerting 20 to 40 pounds of force or lifting objects up to 80 pounds).
May be required to bend, stoop, crouch, or work in a cramped position.
Is subject to possible electrical shocks, exposure to potentially hazardous materials, and noisy airfield. Wears personal protective equipment in accordance with NFPA 70E Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements for safe work on and near energized circuits.
Is subject to hold-over and recall on a 24-hour basis for essential services and emergencies such as snow removal.
Required to work various shifts as needed. May be required to work nights or weekends.
Work is typically reviewed in progress upon completion for quality, quantity, timeliness, teamwork, customer service, and other factors.
A background security investigation will be required for all new hires.
