What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Engineer II (Pipeline Facility Design Team) position at Metropolitan Water District of Southern California?
In this role you will be responsible for assisting experienced engineers with the structural design of buildings and buried structures such as large diameter pipelines, buried reinforced concrete structures, pumping plants, water treatment plants, chemical tank farms, and other structures associated with the conveyance, distribution, and treatment of water.
The work typically includes assisting with structural design calculations; seismic analysis using current Code provisions; pipeline design per American Water Works Association (AWWA), preparation of plans, sections and details; and development of construction specifications. Work includes assisting with project coordination, technical report writing, oral presentation, site investigation, structural inspections and observations, construction submittals review, data research and other assignments as required. Both office and fieldwork will be required.
Schedule : 44 / 36, Monday through Friday / Every other Friday off. Monday through Thursday 9 hours per day, 8 hours per day every other Friday. Start times are no earlier than 6 am and end times are no later than 6 pm.
Hybrid : Metropolitan’s current practice in this position is a hybrid work schedule. This typically includes two days a week in person and the other days remote. This is subject to change dependent on organizational needs. In addition, a telework policy is scheduled for negotiations and once completed and implemented, will provide final direction on the hybrid schedule.
This position may require coming in more than 2 days per week based on business needs or projects.
Travel : This position will require travel to various District facilities throughout the service area, sometimes requiring overnight stay in the project area.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience : Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related field and two years of relevant experience, of which two years must have been at the Assistant Engineer I level.
Degree in a related field is defined as : a degree in the field of Civil or Structural Engineering or a related Engineering degree.
Relevant Experience is defined as : Design, Project Management, Construction management, OR Inspections.

License(s) : Valid California Class C Driver’s License or equivalent (required at time of application) that allows you to drive during your employment.
