Overview
MCL requires 2 x experienced Marine Engineers who have solid experience with Marine infrastructure for our Oil and Gas client.
Project name: SOFON - National Maritime Infrastructure
Duration: Estimated 6 to 12 month contract
Rate: 85-90 USD/hour all inclusive hourly gross rate
Per Diem allowance: if candidates permanent address is more than 150 km from office location, they will be eligible for a per diem USD 129/109 for London/Newcastle every calendar day and mob/demob allowance 1750USD each way.
Hours: 40 hours per week
Locations: One Engineer to be based in London and one Engineer in Newcastle
Status: Candidates can operate as either Ltd company or UK Umbrella PAYE

Project Scope of Work:In accordance with government directive, Saudi Aramco has been directed to develop the National Maritime Infrastructure Project (Sofon Project) on the Eastern and Western coasts of the Kingdom, which consists of a naval shipyard in Ras Al Khair, a commercial and naval shipyard in Yanbu, and a leisure shipyard in King Abdullah Economic City (KAEC).This project is expected to have a substantial impact on direct and indirect employment within the Kingdom, which includes the creation of 140k local jobs, promote local SMEs, and help propel the Kingdom’s economy through increasing the GDP.Additional information• PMC contract end date: 31 July 2025 (renewable at client’s option)• Quality candidates (Aramco experience is preferable)
Job Purpose
- The candidate must be familiar with different types of vessels such as tugboats, pollution control vessels, jack-up barges, maintenance vessels and other marine vessels.
- The candidate must have experience related to the design/construction of marine structures such as breakwater, finger piers, quay walls and dry docks.
- The candidate should also be familiar with wave analysis. He/she shall review design drawings and documents, material and equipment specifications, resolve related engineering issues by applying accepted principles, codes and standards.
- Thorough knowledge of engineering practices, calculation methods, design details, international codes & standards, procedures and specifications is required.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
- Full lifecycle of shipyard and marine infrastructure projects, from feasibility studies to construction and operations, across Naval, Commercial, MRO/Ship repair, and Yacht-building/ship building sectors.
- Pre-FEED/FEED, constructability plans, and EPC tender packages.
- Masterplan design of Naval, Commercial, MRO, and Yacht-building shipyard sectors.
- Advanced coastal and marine engineering analysis, including wave transformation and penetration studies, wave overtopping, fast-time simulations, hydrodynamic modeling, mooring and berthing analysis, anchorage assessment, nautical risk assessment, operational downtime etc.
- Feasibility studies and standards evaluations.
- Project risks management and critical path analysis
- Design, construction and procurement of dry docks, ship lifts, travel lifts and quay wall cranes.
- Design and construction of quay walls, revetment, breakwater
- Dredging and reclamation works and stability analysis
- Development of environmental impact assessment for shipyard and coastal projects.
- Feasibility studies, engineering and procurement of floating docs
- Review, participate, guide and manage the PMC Contractor in developing the technical specifications package as defined in the various Work Element Releases (WER’s).
- Review all technical documents, follow up with technical matters and provide feedback to the Lead/Sr. Project Engineer.
- Provide technical support to the project management team and engage on any specialty services related to the discipline required.
- Resolve specialty related engineering issues by applying accepted principles, codes and standards.
- Ensure that the job progresses as per schedule.
Requirements:
- Bachelor Degree in Marine Engineering / Civil engineering / Naval Architectural.
- 10 -15 years of relevant working experience in Marine Systems Engineering and Design (Preferably on Pre-FEED, FEED and Detailed phase).
- Has been involved with projects in the FEED stage and has extensive knowledge and experience in reviewing engineering documents and drawings
- Thorough knowledge of engineering practices and economic principles, calculation methods and design details.
- Good interface knowledge with related disciplines i.e. E&I, Piping, HVAC, Process & Technical Safety
- Preferably working experience in/ with Shipyards, Shipboard Operation, Marine Equipment Vendor and Manufacturer
- Familiar with the latest (marine) systems and equipment technology and having the ability to specify and judge the suitability of equipment, while keeping a good balance between technological advancement and commercial awareness
- Have experience with review methods, such as HAZID, HAZOP, SIL, LOPA etc.
- Good working knowledge of Aramco standards and procedures and International standards
- Aramco standards knowledge is a plus.
